Gibbs & Fulton

Is Blair being signed to replace Payten or is there something else supporters are missing?

It is good the club has the confidence to allow Fulton and co to negotiate.

The Tigers have good junior depth in the front row and no doubt young Spence can more than replace Fulton.

At some stage we need to look to the future and note the loss of O'Donnell, Harrison, Collis and Halatau really hasn't hurt the club. There are always younger players to replace them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blair is being signed to replace Ellis

anything is possible.

All reports i heard was that the Tigers board informed Gibbs and Fulton that they are free to look elsewhere if they like.

Their manager started talks with the sharks almost immediately but nothing has been heard of since.

There's also talk of Payten retiring early.

Its all to do with freeing up big dollars to sign blair.

Very risky ploy if he opts to sign elsewhere, cos then we lose 4 players essentially, most of which are capable of playing prop, a position we need the depth in.

I found this MU.
As reported this week, CEO Stephen Humphreys has granted veteran duo Bryce Gibbs and Liam Fulton permission to negotiate elsewhere after an approach from their agent Daryl Mather nearly two months ago. Gibbs and Fulton have been in business together off the field for the past five years and they want to keep playing alongside one another.

Mather met with Cronulla recently and Melbourne could also come into calculations for Gibbs, who is getting better with age.

But Humphreys is adamant both players will be accommodated next year should they not strike a deal with a rival club.

cheers mac,

well there it is.

I'm not entirely sure the Storm would be in the market.

Their cap is at the hilt and Blair isn't on that much, they'd have to dump someone else, possibly Woolnough, to get both down here.

Given Storm have little to no depth, i can't see them buying any big name players, rather they'll buy fringe first graders on the cheap, as they always do.

That is an interesting suggestion. We'll have to wait and see what eventuates.
Why would Blair be signed to replace Ellis when Ellis is under contract?
I wouldn't be surprised if your inside information or your hunch or whatever you like to call it has no substance. If it does then please feel free to share it.

There's no inside info.

If the bloke is getting homesick and talking about finishing his career at castleford all in the same week, then a part of me wonders if maybe he wants to go home early.

My guess is nothing more and was not stated as anything more. I've justified why I think that way.

You don't have to agree with it, I don't expect you to, it's just a f**king opinion.

most people with a shred of common sense would N.C.

Furthermore, what value does a contract hold anyway.

Gibbs signed for another 4 years just a month ago, now he's given the green light to look elsewhere.

I wonder if this is why we played so poorly against Souths- Gibbs and Fults are a major part of the club - esp. in the morale of the team..

Fulton is another player who has not improved since 2005.

Marshall and Gibbs are the only two players who have steadily improved in the past few years, the rest have gone backwards or stagnated.

I left Farah out of that because he was amazing in 07, 08, 09 but his form has dropped a little since then.

Thats why its even more amazing we moved heaven and earth to retain Sheens. Usually when a team is going backwards the board looks to its coach--not our mob we reward him

The entire club has always been too comfortable since 2005 - management, players, coaching staff.

Regarding Gareth,

He will see out his contract at the Tigers.

He only turned 30 last month, which means he will be 32 when his time is up with us.

He will then take himself and his young family back to the UK and finish his career in the English Super League.

Adrian Morley just turned 34 and is on the verge of signing another 2 year deal with Warrington.

Gareth has plenty of time to "finish" his career in the UK.

The main concern with him is this bloody high ankle sprain which never really seems to get back to 100% and he also has the same groin issue as Robbie.

Gaz is loyal and is loving it here in Australia, but his Mum and Dad and his extended family will always be the reason for him to go home once his time is up with us.

Fine. Just your opinion. My opinion is it's pulling at strings to suggest a 30yo in the prime of his football life wants to 'finish' his career in England somehow equates to him being replaced end of season by Blair.

Wouldn't be surprised if Burgess wants to finish his career in England too, nor if he's a bit homesick.

Fulton has come back a far better player

Galloway and Dwyer have improved no end...Lawrence has gotten better

Iam hearing Gibbs is off to the sharks and maybe Fulton. Will be announced in a day or two. My source is usually pretty reliable, although has given me some bad mail from time to time

I can't really agree with your Fulton comment. He remains consistant, but nothing that can't be replaced without too many problems.

Agree with Gallaway, but to me, he has never reached his potential, at least not reached it consistantly.

I think Dwyer will go on & rep for the state or country.

Lawrence would probably have rep'd this year, just hope he recovers from his injury & comes back at the same level eventually.

But I do agree with Hybrid, our longtime players are not going anywhere near as well as expected? Maybe new clubs & the change will bring the best out in them, but they don't seem to be able to do it here anymore? I said it earlier, that some of them seem to doing just enough to get a game next week & that's all.
