We must keep Fulton at all costs He is too valuable as an utility player . Can play many positions Defensively one of the best at Tigers .Also have big wraps on Gibbs as well but am concerned his knee is just about to pack it in

Fulton is a good player but we have better younger players. If he can earn more money elswhere, it is best he is allowed to leave. Spence looks like a very good replacement.

For christs sake R2, the young palyers are needed, but only to become the next group of players, not the current group, give them time, your theory allows for no plan B, what happens when they don't succeed as they surley wont against the good sides (e.g. St George)? You can't get 5 yrs experience overnight, you need hardened FG players (not super stars) to compliment the team or you have no chance.

You have a good point Tigern. But you get the feeling the Club has to make some hard decisions or lose some of the outstanding young players it has fought so hard to locate, develop and retain from other clubs.

If Fulton has the chance to earn more at another club and having been a very loyal servant no barriers should be put in his way.

Fresh faces always brings enthusiasm to the team and I have no doubt Spence and a few of the other younger players are up to the challenge. Hino is still there, perhaps with Blair, to lead the younger players.

Does anyone have views on the possible release of these players? Is the decision to release these players to be considered in isolation?

This appears to be a Wayne Bennett type move to release a player a year early rather than keeping the player a year too late. A change of policy for Sheens or is it the influence of Humphreys? Did the players seek a better deal or have they been pushed?

I'd be interested to learn of your thoughts as a few thoughts have gone through my mind.

R2... it was Fulton and Gibbs who sort the release.. so it wasnt any club policy.

Its reported in the media by the club and the players' manger that they sought permission to ask around... but it is entirely possible that this is just a show of good faith from the club to a couple of guys who've put in a few innings when needed, and who they don't want to mess around too much - rather than have it out in the public domain that they are "surplus to need" or somehow on the Tigers' scrapheap; let them move on with a little more grace (and perhaps also money?) if you know what I mean.

This is pure speculation on my part - I'm just making the point that sometimes the media gets fed information very strategically.

I doubt they would throw Gibbs on the scrape heap, he is getting better each year..The club also did state that if they didnt find another club they would be welcome to stay , another sign they wouldnt be on the scrap heap if they are willing to keep them ?

True. But he has had his share of injuries, as has been suggested already in this thread. He spent a bit of time out with back problems which can't be all that good for his longevity...

Again, I speculate.

For years we carried Gibbs in this team in the hope that he'll one day develop into a very good prop. In the past year or so, we have finally started to see results and we now want to get rid of him? Crazy.

We need Gibbs.

Fulton wouldn't be much of a loss, especially if we sign Blair.

Talk now of Heighington being shopped. Seems Humphries has ballsed up the cap worse than expected. Why we'd talk CH up as a rep player when he couldn't go a set without a screw up and ship him out when he's finding consistency is beyond me.

I like Rhino, but if for arguments sake he moved on and we signed Blair, how about this for a pack?

13. Gibbs
12. Blair
11. Ellis
10. Galloway
9. Farah
8. Woods

With Dwyer, BMM and Fifita off the bench.

I could get used to it...

I think Dwyer will be one of the first picked now, so for me:

8. Gibbs
9. Farah
10. Galloway
11. Ellis
12. Dwyer
13. Blair

With Fifita, Woods & BMM on the bench.

I am with you Tigerm, I think Dwyer is developing very nicely.

My 2012 team (based on the Blair signing) is;

1. Mullaney
2. Brown
3. Ayshford
4. Lawrence
5. Tuqiri
6. Marshall
7. Lui
8. Gibbs
9. Farah
10. Galloway
11. Ellis
12. Dwyer
13. Blair

14. BMM
15. Fifita
16. Woods
17. Meaney

This team is based on the fact I think Moltzen, Hino, Fulton, Payton, Ryan and McKinnon (certainly) will be gone or out of favour. Hino is a big call but has he done anything great this year? He is all heart but that won't win us a comp.

I know there are always differing opinions but I feel Mullaney is nearly there and the next few months will help him for next year. I think Meaney offers a lot as a utility but I'd consider Daniella on the bench.

Might be counting my chickens too.....

I know I will be in the minority but for the team to improve, an injection of talent from the U20s is required, especially in the backline.

Refer my earlier post, pace and more pace. Utai and Ryan are far too slow and we are wasting Marshall's skills with these wingers. Brown is also not a centre.
