THIS WAS POSTED ON THE PI SITE YESTERDAY ABOUT PRESTON
PRESTON LOOKING GOOD FOR WCC
Jan 29 - Preston Campbell believes he will be fit enough to play in the World Club Challenge and is looking forward to the trip next week.
The Panthers five-eighth has been suffering from a groin strain but had tests yesterday which showed it was healing well. "If I make it through training this week it'll be okay," Preston said today.
"I'm really looking forward to the match.
"We've been training very hard because we know it isn't going to be easy. The competition in England is getting stronger and Bradford is a good side. So we have been all taking it very seriously. We aren't going over there for a party."
Asked how he thought the boys would go if neither he nor Ryan Girdler were available, Preston replied: "With or without us the boys would go fine. They would step up."
And he wasn't about to make any excuses about the weather conditions in England at this time of year. "We'll have to take what we get and won't complain."
Later, coach John Lang said that while both Ryan and Preston had both seen in some doubt, Preston was looking more likely to play.
"I must say Ryan is more in doubt," John said. "He will see a doctor again later today so we should have more news tomorrow. At this stage we will leave the decision until Monday."
He agreed with Preston that the loss of one or both players would not phase the rest of the team - "they'll take it in their stride."
John said that one reason for leaving for England so early - next Wednesday - was to give the boys more chance to acclimatise. "The Roosters did that last year and came back with the goods. Other Australian teams have left it later and haven't done so well, so we think getting over there early is the thing to do."
Asked about his decision to hold back his top players from the World Sevens, John said: "It's a bit of a balancing act, really. We copped a bit of flak from the (Sevens) organisers and I suppose that's fair. But we wanted to make every post a winner and didn't want to get any injuries. That's why we are not playing any lead-up games (to the WCC match)."

GIRDLER OUT OF WCC SQUAD
Jan 29 - Ryan Girdler is out of the Penrith Panthers squad which travels to England next week for the World Club Challenge match against the Bradford Bulls in Huddersfield.
He has been suffering from pleurisy and has not been able to train for over a week.
"He saw a doctor again this afternoon and he's just not well enough," coach John Lang said.
Ryan's place in the 18 man squad will be taken by Brett Howland, but John has not yet decided on the final make-up of the team.
The Panthers leave Sydney on Wednesday to give themselves time to acclimatise for the match which is on the night of Friday, February 13 - that's Saturday morning, February 14th, Sydney time.
