Golden Point

Not a fan but if they're going to persist then I don't know why the winner can't get 1.5 points and the loser 0.5 points. At least both teams get something.

Finals should be extra time then golden point if undecided after extra time.

As an 'old school' Dragons fan, I don't rate the golden point rule.
What is wrong with a draw.
Two teams battling it out for a well earned draw!
One point is better than none.
Teams having had draws add a new / old, dimension to the ladder which is not a bad thing.
Yes, I'm old fashion, yes, I'm a baby boomer ............... and dam proud of it, just like my team, just like our older system of allowing for draws.

it ain't so bad people.
Even Gus likes the old system ........... and so should we all.
Golden point, in all it's format, is in contrast of the game we love.

Give 'Golden point' the boot.

Well said Old Kogarah Boy 1.

As you say, one point is better than none. If the score in even after 80 minutes, in most cases it's a tight game and at the end I think that's a fare result.

Saying that, there is not much difference in winning the game in normal time by setting up a field goal and doing it in extra time.

By taking away the one point, it effects the +/- and it does make the final rounds exciting and more bums on seats.

i don't like the golden point, whats everyone's opnion. BTW cowboys deserved to win after that forward pass.
I agree, golden try with the loser geting 1 point and the winner getting two points.

Plus if there is no try by half time in extra time, then each team is to be reduced to 9 players on the field.

Winning the toss in the main game in most cases gets evened out over 2 x 40 minute halves
In golden point it can have a very big advantage and IMO very unfair
In the main season a draw at full time should be exactly that 1 point each
In the semis 10 minutes each way and if still a draw the team with the best for and against go through
Grand final 10 minutes each way and if needed 5 each way
Radical alternative
If golden point is to be applied ban field goals and penalty goals in extra time and make it that you have to score a try
If a team gives away a penalty put that player in the bin automatically

I was actually a big fan of the mid week match replays, following weekend rematch, but I was greedy little kid back then.
Now that I'm nearly all grown up, and still a greedy fan I think there needs to be a result (winner and loser) but it should never come of a golden point whether it's a kick or try.
Imo it should be 10mins extra time each way, highest scorer scorer wins. Repeat until there is a highest scorer. That would be epic.

I went to Bledisloe Cup a couple of years back and watched a 12-12 tryless draw. At full time the players just shook hands and walked off.
I felt empty and wanted a result.
I would prefer 10 minutes extra time and if at the end of that it was still drawn then a kicking duel, like a shootout in soccer but with place kicks from various places on the field.

.

You can't have a game worth 3 competition points, that's why it should be split 1.5 vs 0.5.

That half point would end up being quite valuable at finals time.

Crush I would like to see if there is a winner in extra time , the loosing team should at least get a point .

Yep I think that is fair in regular season. Maybe a shootout in finals series?
I think it would be exciting to watch two kickers trying to put it over the black dot from out wide?

I reckon it should be "golden try".

By this I mean that as soon as a try has been scored and it's enough to win the game, game ends.

That way if teams go for field goals or penalty goals, there is risk involved. They'll go ahead and could win if no tries are scored but there's no guarantee they'll win.

Would be much better than the field position and field goal-athon it is now.

Why not they didn't loose after 80 min ?
Doesnt matter, they lost after the game was finished. Do teams get 1 point for not losing after 79 minutes? Or teams that lose to a try after the buzzer?

It's the same attitude as Mary's 'if the field was 98m we would have won'. Fact is, if you are behind on points at the end of the game, you lose. If the end of the game is the 80th, 81st, 82nd or whatever minute the rules say it is, doesnt matter.

I don't believe a team that wins in golden point should be rewarded with the same points as a team that wins in regular time.
I think that if you win in regular time you should get 3 points, if you win in golden point you get 2 points. If it finishes in a draw you get 1 point each.
If you lose, you had a chance in regular time and you had a chance in golden point so you get no points.
