From todays SMH.

"It is ridiculous that players such as Sonny Bill Williams, Benji Marshall, Karmichael Hunt, Timana Tahu and Tonie Carroll have to knock back playing for their country so they can play in the State of Origin series in Australia.

Why can't they do both?

If they are educated and play junior football in Australia, they should be eligible to play in our premier domestic representative events at the senior level. If they also qualify to play for Great Britain, New Zealand or an emerging rugby league nation, they should always be allowed to fulfil that dream as well.

We have more than enough players to go around and anything to help improve the strength of our competitors surely must be a good thing".

I couldnt agree more.I think it sucks that OZ poaches young Kiwis by luring them into SOO. blokes like Karmichael Hunt,Marshall and Sonny Bill SHOULD be allowed to play SOO,they did play their jnr footy here and not give up their Kiwi jumper as well.

Cheers.

Im not in favour of Kiwi's playing state of origin reguardless where there first senior game has been played .I know exceptions have already been made with Carrol[still baffled by his aust selection]and Adrian Lam.If it ever becomes open slather they may as well scrap the title 'origin' and just call it an "all stars" and if that happens ill give it away.

I reckon thats a very short sighted view. Why should Aussie Kiwiws be denied playing SOO????Its BS.Every talented young Kiwi is going to get poached by Bennett will never play for his country.

These guys have played their first jnr footy in OZ,why cant they play SOO???

They can choose one or the other. If they take pride in the New Zealand jumper enough, they should be willing to miss SOO for it.

if they CHOOSE to play for australia then they could play SOO but the point is there shouldnt be a choice :?

unless they are born in australia and have a kiwi background then i would give them a choice

I hear what you are saying, but surely if we are going to help the international game,we should allow blokes playing in OZ to play at the highest level(SOO) and take the experince into their respective international sides.

The lines of country/state etc are already blurred.....lets let everyone who is out here play.Cheers.

then it shouldnt be called SOO it should be whoever wants to play can come and throw a footy around

if they all should be allowed to play, what will determine which state they play for?

If playing for their country means so much to them, then it shouldnt matter about SOO.

I hate the idea of Kewis playing SOO.

a difficult subject

Well - in their situation they have to choose whether to play for New Zealand or to go for Australian citizenship.

If you remember, Jason played for city/country one year, and then decided he'd rather stick with NZ.

Gould is a goose - SofO isn't about getting the best players in the world together (although it is mostly that), it is about Queensland versus NSW. Why should we allow the Kiwis to play? It is the way we have kept ourselves as the strongest rugby league country for the last 30 years. I am NOT in favour of seeing anyone else take that title from us!

And what would happen if there were a host of good Kiwis and some injuries - who would go and watch 10 Kiwis per side battle it out? That's not NSW vs Queensland.

If international rugby league is big enough (and this tri-series is getting it there) then that will be the drawcard!

id prefer to make the rules that if you are born in nz or GB you cant play origin

and must choose those nations to play for

I dont want a bunch of dirty bloody Kiwi's playing in and runing the Origin series.

Its bad enough that QLD has resorted to making up the rules as they go and brining a few Kiwi's into their side.

Gould is a dope. He should just **** off and leave the administration of the game to people that have a ****ing clue!

No.

State and internatinal rep footy should be kept seperate.

Keep it simple and clear cut.

Gus just wants SBW in a blue shirt.

What about if & when the poms start producing players like Williams, Marshall & Hunt....it'll just turn into a bloody mess.

The title of this thread is misleading. It should be "Gould makes a great point, if we overlook all the arguments against it."

But I shouldn't be too hard on Phool. He was spot on with his pre-game and halftime assessments. Underneath all the ego, arrogance and agendas lies a wonderful football brain and when it runs free of his bullshit, it's an absolute pleasure to hear.

Im surprised at the selfisfhness of most of these comments.Everyones screaming for a truly international game. How do we do this.....help make other teams stronger. How do we do this????Let blokes who played all their jnr footy here play SOO........and take this experience into int. footy/

It would hardly mean that ten kiwis would be playing, only a couple......but it would mean that 19 yo old kids wouldnt have to make a decision to to play one or the other when they are at a most impressionable age.

I can see only 1 or 2 who would make the current SOO teams, and that would be Hunt for QLD and SBW for NSW......hardly a takeover.

Cheers.

Of course they should be allowed to play SOO. Anyone should be allowed to play SOO with the state they played for first over 16, no matter when the first game was. Morely should be allowed to play for the Blues, and also Great Britain. Then SOO will become a true NRL allstar match.

Simon SOO is an Auzzie thing not a Kewi thing. If they want to play for the kewis then they shouldn't be alowed to play SOO.

State Of Orign Is NSW v QLD not NSW v QLD + a coupple of Kewis.

Well you can have that kind of attitude,or you can try and sponsor the game as a whole.........

I know which side I am on.

PS.....you heard the Cayless brothers talk, they sound pretty Aussie to me.

Cheers.
