Gould on the Roast

Did anyone else catch Goulds comments about the Bronco's on the roast this morning ?\

He basically asked how many titles they had won. WHen he was told 6 or 7 he then asked for how many of those titles do you think they were under the salary cap. When nobody said much he then went onto say how the storm not being able to score points this year is a joke.

Does Phil have any evidence of this ? It seems like a pretty big accusation to make on national tv if he has no evidence

Gus this year has been a deadset joke. Last Sunday he was argueing the point that you should be aloud to be offside if your on top in defence.

It does make you wonder. Surely the lure of staying in SEQ and playing under Uncle Wayne wasn't enough motivation to keep ALL those players together...

Also think about the roosters 2000-2004. There had to be some 'tricky' accounting going on with the side they were able to put out. I think its a bit rich for Gus to come out and say this

If this was the case (I missed it) and I was the CEO of the club (and not just the Broncos but any club who had accusations made against them on national TV) and was 100% sure that the books were in order I'd be calling my lawyers and filing a defamation suite.

 Was fairly pathetic.

It all came about in a discussion about Dugan and TK was saying it's good a club like Canberra is able to keep it's juniors and that the NRL should look to assist clubs like Canberra to even out the dominance of the Broncos who have retained some awesome players in their time.

Voss then mentioned the players they lost when Gould came up with his questioning.

Looking back, the Broncos salary cap history is fairly understandable, it was just a pathetic attempt by Gus to salvage an agenda.

Hence that's why I think Gould's peculiar stance on salary cap is due to this.

How about this little gem. Every other team has had to shed players to stay within the cap but because its the Storm its unfair?

STORM

Now: Last 2009: Fourth (finished as premiers)

The Storm situation is a disgrace and a black mark on our game. This club is a victim of its success and a system that punishes achievement. Melbourne are victims of a system that is outdated, unfair and unjustifiable, and an NRL management team that has long outlived its usefulness. What a shame these great players will not be on show come the finals this September.

Broncos 2006+2007 as opposed to 2009+10. The rosters don't compare. If they could afford the 2006 roster, why can't they afford a similar roster 4 years later?

Mismanagement mostly.

Signed players from outside the system and were forced to pay top dollar to attract them instead of having them go through the grades or return on less than what they're worth to salvage their careers.

Gus is probably on the money but the old story people in glass houses should not throw stones. The chook sides he was involved with probably had cap issues to and lets face it the only clubs back than not fiddling the books were the teams with no money

Now their motivation is to play under Ivan Hemjak but watch it and it will soon become reality.

More like the lure of playing for a big club, why play in front of 7,000 roosters fans each week when you can play in front of 30,000-40,000 broncos fans.

Broncos are a big club with great winning tradition, that is why players want to come to Brisbane.

I partially agree with that.

Clubs should get huge exemptions for players developed by the club, with the money the goes into players at such a young age these days it is a huge investment only for the most part other clubs with cap space paying overs for them ie. Dave Taylor - Souths.

Inglis, Cronk, Slater and Smith were all taken from the QLD Cup (thousands of km's away from Melbourne) so there goes David Gallops argument about unfair catchments for teams like Canberra etc (who are now affiliated with Logan). And all 4 should stay at the Storm, I understand they kept singing other players while being over the cap but the ones they nurtured/invested in (and look at what those investments have brought to the game) should of been subsidised in the first place.

I think if something like that came into the comp the quality of juniors would rise as it would allow clubs to dive in 100% into junior development with little fear of losing the returns/player once the player is showing potential to other clubs.

If Dugan went to the Roosters it would of shown how stupid our games rules are in regards to the cap.
