People may be annoyed by it, but they love being annoyed by it. It is a drawcard. That's why they, and particularly Gould, are still there. Channel 9 feel he brings in the viewers, and they are the experts in the business, who am I to argue?.

I don't know; it's quite fun having your own opinions rather than shrugging your shoulders and basically assuming that because someone is in charge of something, they are beyond question. Your attitude simply seems to be we should should shut up and put up with a substandard product, which would merely cause the powers that be to think that everything is fine because no one is complaining. Makes no sense, and exhibits a complete blind trust in organizations that prior history of, well, anything should tell you is pretty naive.

Your footy knowledge looks non existent. A winger is not part of the spine. Potentially losing one spine player is hardly a concern. Especially when that player has missed close to half his game since 2014 and never been fully fit since.

So your basically saying any club can win a premiership with mediocre/average wingers? No.. the good ones gain alot of momentum for the team as well as metres ..good example is Radradra

No, I'm not saying that at all. If you really don't like the Nine product for any reason, you are free to pay the $50 a month and watch it on Foxtel. But not all that many people do, it seems. Not enough to worry the suits at 9, anyway.

Maybe they don't dislike Gould and Warren sufficiently to shell out $50 a month. Or maybe people just like to have a whinge.

Anyway, I'm sticking to my theory that Gould is under instructions to behave the way he does on Channel 9 match calls.

But how is it a drawcard when the ratings are down? How can people love being annoyed by it, but happily change the channel when there's another option?

My guess is that 9's ratings are down because their games are now simulcast on Fox. Those who have Fox are no longer forced to watch 9. Whether it is because of Phil Gould that they change is another matter entirely. It may be because Fox have fewer ads. They certainly have callers who are equally annoying, and much less knowledgeable, in my opinion.

Do you also believe in the tooth fairy? That's a weird theory :?

How is it another matter entirely? It's what we're discussing but you make it another matter? Seriously mate, Gould is a GREAT administrator, brilliant even. But, he is absolute SHIT at being a commentator. I get you're a fan boy and are upset because someone has said something about the big man that's not all sunshine and skittles, but it's true.

I personally like Gus' banter on 9. I believe I'm in the silent majority. It's the ads and poor quality telecast that keep me watching Fox, but that is actually another matter. We're discussing him re-signing with Penrith are we not?

Gus can probably smell some really good seasons coming up over the next 5 years. After all the work he has put the last 5 years it would be a shame if he wasn't here to enjoy what should be a pretty competitive run.

I believe you'll find people will tend to discuss what they want to discuss.

I won't say I hate it but I certainly don't love it. It's funny in it's own ridiculous way. Like there's action on the field and it's just like "lol wtf are these idiots talking about?". I don't really need commentators to say much anyway. I mean I can see the bloke got tackled/passed/scored whatever. That's why I like Vossy. Bloke adds character

Love it lmao.

It's amazing the effect it has when you just play music and not being annoyed by the verbal diarrhea that you get bombarded with.

Commentators these days are nothing but a distraction.Instead of simply calling the game, you have periods were they turn segments of the game into their own little football forum soap-box.

I noticed on Gould's twitter feed from a day ago he mentions 'couple of announcements this week, couple more next week, interesting times ahead' in relation a question posed by someone about Panthers contracts. Should be interesting?
