Grand Final Ticket Hike

A letter in today's RL Express pointed out that the prices for the GF had risen by a huge percentage. Having checked the ESL website for confirmation I can say that the ESL will soon be killing the golden goose. I bought £36 tickets for the 2007 event. This same ticket now sells for £51! This is a huge 41% increase. Other big hikes are in place for the rest of the stadium whatever seat you buy (or not as the case may be). The top price is now £61.Bearing in mind that there are no concessions for OAPs or juniors at the GF. I used to get the best seat in the house but I'm gradually getting closer and closer to the ends as I refuse to pay increasingly huge sums of money for three people that is for after all a couple of hours entertainment. When it comes to the time that I'm forced to pay for end seats or not attend then I probably won't attend due to the regular trouble that occurs at the GF .Also, the 2007 event failed to sell out. This will be a recurring situation if the prices continue to rise at this rate. For you Aussies £61 equates to almost $143. What's the comparison to the NRL GF taking into consideration that these are seats that are available to anyone to buy and are not in an executive box?

Ouch. If the actual seat locations are changing their value like that without anything else changing, they'll be staring down the barrel at possible reduced crowd if they can't sell it out.

36 pounds = 90 aussie dollars
51 pounds = 126 AUD
and as you say 61 pounds = 143 AUD

Not sure what NRL GF costs these days, but also bear in mind there have been three full games to watch at an Aussie GF day included in teh ticket price...

Well it is the grand final, the climax of the entire season. Most clubs charge £20plus for a normal game, at Quins adult seats go from £20-35. So for such a big game it isn't that much.

But the rise as a percentage is. Don't forget nad we live in the grim and poor North whereas you live in the bright and prosperous South where money is no object.

Sell your PC and buy a ticket :D

It is a lot to pay for a ticket to a footy match but for the quality of league on display i can't say it isn't justified.

I know you're joking but just for the Aussies on here, London has some of the poorest and most deprived area in Britain, like Tower Hamlets for example.

You're right in % terms, I guess for me it just shows how underpriced RL events usually are. It's the same for internationals.

Oh - you really hate Tower Hamlets don't you
In the recent C4 worst places to live Newham, Hackney, Islington and Harringey got into the bottom 10 but Tower Hamlets didn't make it

On the topic of the price increase - well the event has been a sell-out or close for the last few years so it makes sense to put the prices up. Hopefully it isn't too much to turn too many away

Are they underpriced or is everything else here overpriced?

I'd just like you to wander into your boss's office today nad and ask him for a 20% pay rise. London and the Home Counties also has THE most affluent areas of Britain too so what's your point?

Well looking at the Manchester United web site, the tickets for a regular game there costs from £25 to £44

So the best ticket for the super league grand final costs about 40% more than the same seat at a regular Manchester United match - do you think that is a reasonable comparison?

We all know how overpriced tickets for soccer matches are so I don't think it's a good comparison. United are one of the cheaper ones to watch in the Premiership and they at least realise that they command a full house for virtually every game they play at OT and in comparison to the likes of Chelsea are quite reasonable. However even United aren't dumb enough to hike ther prices up by 20%-40% in one leap. It's even dumber when the last match there never sold out. Time will tell if two of the "big four" make it to OT again if the match sells out.

Hate is a strong word, but I certainly have issues with the place. The last time I went there a guy with TB was gobbing up at the bus stop two yards away from me. The only reason i mentioned it was to demonstrate that london is all paved with gold, could have used any number of boroughs as you say.
