Jack Gibson followed by daylight, then Wayne Bennett and Craig Bellamy, followed by Trent Robinson.

Jack Gibson's record is unequaled in the annals of rugby league. He took an Eastern Suburbs team that in 1966 didn't win a game, and in 1967 turned them into semi-finalists. Then in 1974-75 he won back to back Grand Finals with Easterrn Suburbs. Later he won with Parramatta. He has been there and done that.

Why aren't Des Hasler (Manly), Geoff Toovey (Manly) or Ivan Cleary (NZ Warriros 2011) on the list?

I am not suggesting that they are nearly as good a Jack Gibson the King, or Prince Wayne Bennett or Prince Craig Bellamy. But they are nearly as good as Count Trent Robinson.

Not sure how Bellamy could be on that list...surely a wooden-spoon winning coach shouldn't be mentioned amongst the best!

Not many coaches can win more games than 70% of the comp in a wooden spoon winning season ;)

Must have just been a really tough comp that year. Kudos to the team that won the premiership, clearly they are the greatest premiership team in history!

I think Tim Sheens case is hurt by his failure with the Cowboys and his disappointing exit with the Tigers. He won a premiership with the Tigers but they only made the finals 3 out of the 10 years he was there.

Warren Ryan is interesting one, he won two premierships with the Bulldogs, but the failure to win the 1989 Grand Final with the Tigers may still haunt him when he substituted Steve Roach and Paul Sironen off the field. I've read that he was a master tactician and some of his strategies are still used by coaches today.

I would consider it a trinity of Gibson, Bennett and Ron Massey.

Even uttering Bellamy in the same breath is an insult to the game.
