You really rate the edge as one of the greatist guitarists in the world???

Plays some nice simple stuff in a very popular band ill admit but a great?

I guess thats the good thing about music, it works for each person in there own way!

I dunno where it said at the start "Who is the most technically perfect guitarist ever".

The real test is who those people named would call their role models and inspirations and most of the guys named would say Hendrix.....

i dont see the role model question either

it said who was the worlds best guitarist

merely pointing out a fact

and simo yes the gibson is heavier great for big fat sounds

lacks subtlety though

and ozbash roger waters isnt a very good guitarist

Mate i dont think to many here know Impellitteri.

Great band and some smokin guitar to boot.

I love the solo in Rat Race.

The singer on the newest album kicks butt - the stuff i've heard is heavy! Then again, apparently some of the solos have gone bye bye

but i am 38 now and my tastes have broadened

Broadened how?

Broad taste but can't acknowledge Hendrix?

Strange.

i acknowledged hendrix

he was messy and over rated

everyone was on drugs and never heard a wah wah through overdrive before

"wow man...it sounds like an aeroplane taking off"

Angus Young reckons that his brother Malcom is a far better player than himself. Listen good next time you have got AC/DC playing. Malcom is great!!!

Hendrix was an innovator. People play the guitar the way they do because of him. Whether you want to admit it or not. I didn't cast a vote. There are so many I like for different reasons and all because of Hendrix.

Slash is a hack at best. Because you know everything he recorded doesn't rate him. He doesn't deserve to be in the list. Master of feel?

Michael Schenker deserves a mention. During his days with UFO and MSG, he created a sound no other axeman was.

Gary Moore, (Scarface) from his Thin Lizzy days to G Force through to his solo work, heavily influenced young guitarists the world over. Corridors Of Power is a must. Also famous for being banned from China for Murder In The Skies. A wonderful talent.

Iommi (Black Sabbath) & Gilmore (Pink Floyd) I know. :D

Mathias Jabs. Sensational talent. A very unique sound. A quiet achiever and very underrated much like Brian May.

Ahh i just saw something in your first post Millers, you are a fender fan i take it? Much like Gilmour.

Dont get me wrong i love a Fender as did Hendrix but in a ford v holden kind of way the guitar world has the Fender v Gibson rivialry. My heart lies with the greatest guitar the almighty Gibson Les Paul!!! Combined with a cranking Marshall Amp and i just feel it cant be beaten :D

The Gibson Les Paul. The greatest rock guitar ever made. Pity the necks have to be so wide.

A selection of my favourites.
Giggle if you will.

Steve Cropper (Booker T & The MGs)
Mabon 'Teenie' Hodges (Al Green)
Leo Nocentelli (The Meters)
Jimmy Nolen (James Brown)

Some of the finest rhythm guitarists ever.

I urge everybody with an interest in guitar to check them out if you haven't already.

Gibsons shit all over Fenders.
I voted Hammet out of that list cos he is the guitarist i enjoy most out of that list, although im surprised neither Marty Friedman(it think thats his name, guitarist from Megadeth) or Dave Mustaine were in there. Herd Mustaines solo from the song Ride The Lightning!!!
My favourite guitarist is Chris Cheny from the Living End, a sensational and ver under rated guitarist.

Chris Cheney's far from under-rated.

He consistently gets voted Best Australian Guitarist and has a legion of followers.

I saw a band in Armidale a few weeks ago called Velvet Underlay. Their guitarist/singer was a dead set Chris clone. Right down to the shoes and stripey shirt.

There's alot of brilliant names in this poll.

I'd add Tom Morello to the list, the guy is a freak. He's the master of effects and crazy shit.

How do you define the bestuitarist is the question....i noted many have voted for Hendrix??....but why??.....his guitar playing was hardly complex...a learning guitarist could have his songs down pat in an instance??.

Hendrix never brought anything to the guitar which hadn't already been invented.....im sorry i forgot....the Wah pedal , Jimmy Hendrix was basically a mere of rip-off of Chuck Berry.

There styles are almost exact....Hendrix was veyr out spoken about having bas his idol, if anyone was to be the better guitarist it is Chuck Berry....he brought hard guitar to the arena...and Hendrix basically just copied the style and through wah to it.

A simplistic guitarist.....nothing more.....yet he's made out to be a great guitar god when in reality most beginners to the guitar already can play his simplistic solo's without next to know fuss!!

Eddie Van Halen is without doubt the greatest guitarist apart from Chuck Berry.

He revolutionized the guitar to such a way that all bands from Gunners to Metallica to def leppord to Bon Jovi all had his style.

Eddie was that good a player Paul & Gene from KISS tried to sign him up before Van Halen had even released an album and Eddie was only just 20, Eddie actually wrote solo's for Ace??..this at 20 years of age.

Eddie brought guitar tapping & dive bombing to the guitar.....at the time it took the world by storm...and immediately Eddie influenced thousands upon thousands of bands....all the way to today.

Even Michael Jackson couldn't resist to using Eddie in his songs...." Beat it" was one of MJ's biggets hit's....but Eddie's famous riff & solo on this song made it as distictive as they come.

For anyone who wan't to listen to a solo.....download " Eruption" from Van Halen, this is the song that transformed the way the guitar is played today!!....anything by Hendrix is laughable compared to this, Hendrix was a Blues player..Eddie was everything from Jazz to Blue's to even Country ( finished what you started)...his variety is just amazing.

Actually it's funny.....i not many have voted as there best guitarists for Eddie copies, the best guitarists are the one's who brought something to the guitar which hadn't been done before...the rest are copy cats with no originality.

He never invented anything, Chuck Berry is the true innovator if anyone!

How can a guitarist be a great when he didn't bring anything that hadn't already been brought?

Sure he played the guitar in a charismatic way.....but so does Angus Young??....from listening to both i'd say Angus sounds the more talented!

Hendrix guitar solo's sound a mess....his playing actually even sounds out of time on most instantces, Eddie played at a far greater pace with more variety & accuracy.

That's the beauty about forums Ron. We all have an opinion. I don't rate Ratt. But you obviously think they do something for music. For the life of me I can't imagine what, but you think so. It's just an opinion Ron. You maybe wrong, but that's the way it is.
