Following on from signing up Scott Moore and James Graham on proper deals Saints have today announced the sigings of five England youth internationals and eight youngsters in all.
All have come through the revolutionary Saints scholarship scheme with Gary Wheeler in particular (A current England international at under-16 level, who was man of the match against Wales last season.) being a superb signing.
The lad is a stand off and has been chased hard by a lot of the top Super League and Guinness Premiership rugby union clubs.
Others signed up are England teammates Gareth Frodsham (Pilkington Recs) Andrew Dixon and Jamie Foster (Blackbrook).Karl Ashall (Leigh East) plus Matty Ashurst and Stephen Lucas (Leigh Easts) and Sean Magennis (Parts unknown?)
Chairman Eamonn McManus is quoted as saying "The work of the development team goes largely unnoticed, with the fruits of their labour only blossoming several years hence." I have the feeling though that Saints policy of signing players from outside their patch in this manner may have annoyed several other clubs.
Some outstanding talent there to add to the list of possible future internationals along with Scott Moore, Matt Smith, James Roby, James Graham, Ste Tyrer, McGavilray etc, etc.
Saints youth policy seems to be miles more productive these days, good times ahead for the 'v' me feels.
