Also....its interesting to hear what Brandy said.

Other than being a great player, I think he has shown to be one of the best media guys around nowdays. I'd certainly back his judgement about witt - at least he is willing to put his creditbility on the line rather sitting on the fence!

IF all our forwards lay the platform for witty first, maybe he would start to shine, and then if our backs also ran FORWARD, things might just start happening

I think he is a great commentator and he is using his judgement however I think last year Witt did show he can handle the position if he is left to play it. Behind a forward pack willing to create room who knows- he may not make it but he at least deserves a chance.

He has had very little game time this year and when he got time on the field he was either playing in #6 behind a pathetic pack or playing #7 behind a pathetic pack....

I agree that he has had a very ordinary year, but he has not been given a decent chance.. The way the forwards have been dominated we could have Joey Johns and HE would look like a beginner.

It will be interesting to see how Green plays for the Broncos in the coming weeks. Behind the Broncos pack he will probably shine..

I think Greens' job will just be to deliver quality ball from dummay half. He might have a kick or two but he won't be there to be a playmaker.

Alexander knows when he sees a good player, There a certain traits that just come naturally for a halfback, Things that you can't learn its natural skill. Tim Smith and Blake Green do have these skills. These 2 halfs are the best Junior halfbacks running around in the comp and both have the skills to go all the way.

I was having a glance through last years Annual Report and Tim looks a solid build from the Flegg photo...is that right?

BTW, Jake I was having a glance through an old Inside Sport and came across a letter signed Jake the Snake(???)....I'm assuming this is more than coincidence!! It was about a chick they had in a previous issue is that right???

Twizzle,

He put up a few Bombs against the Roosters and we got lucky. Id like to see Witt actually set up a try by passing the ball, but he can't because he has not got the skills.

not a personal attack or anything......but have you watched Witt play the game????????? when there is actually a backline movement as such on Witt diosplays a great pass, particulalrly his long passing game and his kicking game is very good too

even Brian Smith said something along the lines of "he has the best passing game in the club" and "best kicking game (particularly goal kicking) in the club" just last year......its just that this year he seems to think differently?????

and he won't let Witt just play halfback and call the shots.....also last year when talking about both Witt's and i quote he said "Michael is the halfback out of the two, and he is even quite big for a halfback".....maybe that is why he now seems to think he is a 5/8????

even when Witt has been named at 7, he has promoted Thorman into the team and played him at half and pushed Witt out to 5/8 ie. the Warriors game when we were really atrocious?????

Witt needs "half" a chance on a consistent basis and he will develop into a very good halfback in my opinion

I have always maintained that he needs to work on his acceleration and speed. Combine that with his kicking and passing game and he'll get there but he is just too slow.

belly i agree that Witt is not the quickest halfback around.....but honestly although that helps, you don't absolutely NEED it to be a successful halfback.....Peter Sterling and Steve Mortimer for example?????? even Joey Johns never had exceptional speed???

Mortimer was pretty quick.

true eel,

I agree You don't need to be fast to be a good halfback and I think I have said that before as well. But When was the last time that Witt set up a Try by Passing the ball this year or last year?? There is not to many times that he has done so. I have watched Witt play in 1st div right through to 1st grade.

Belly.....he does show hesitation taking on the line, but then again that same hesitation often leads to him making a brake also??? people like Clinton Shifcofske also use similar hesitation and then make breaks?????

remember against the Warriors and the Cowboys he made breaks from that and was the only one who put points on the borad for us in the earlier shallacking at the hands of the Tigers with a quick jink and step to break the line.....and the two tries against Souths last year.......i think he could develop a great running game because he already has a good one???

Jake, thats probably fair enough and you might say i'm full of it, but, that has a lot to do with him not having enough time to get use to players running off him and moreover, the same players running off him (through injury or player selection) and also it has a lot to do with Parramatta's playing style......when was the last time you saw any Parra players putting others through little gaps for tries???? Dykes for Dean Widders early in the year springs to mind......its to do again with how BS coaches????

Aside from a few times this year how many tries have we scored from a pass as opposed to a line break or a kick? I know the pass is involved in a line break but generally its not as selective as putting someone through a gap. We have great hole runners in our team just not many that are doing it at the moment.

But I'm pretty sure that the pass to Burt for one of his tries in the Roosters game after the bomb was from Witty.

and i guess Turvey was a little quicker than Sterlo, but that doesn't say much really....LOL

Yeah, but Sterlo was involved hands on in almost every play. Whereas Turvey was one of those "sit back" halves that would only chime in much later in the tackle count. That's why I'll always say Sterlo was the better player of the two, and the style of halfback I much prefer.
