Nathan Hindmarsh 8

Didn't find himself in the right place for any big runs, but his defence - often partnering Fitzgibbon - was relentless.

Only Fitzgibbon, Barrett and Fittler (all 8.5) rated higher

Someone raised this in another thread about St George/Rooster players getting the quality ball last night and they were right.

When Gasnier scored his first try, Hindy was the dummy runner but would have gone in right next to the posts if the ball was given to him.

The stuff that he does is inspirational out there and he is now getting the plaudits from the media.

I really liked the fact that Hindy seemed to have been told to hang around the ball carrier for the offload. IMHO this is when he is at his best. When the ball pops out and the defence is a little more unstructured he's unstoppable. I'd really prefer Hindy not too take any straight forward hit ups for the Eels, I don't think its a good use of his talents. Send him in looking for broken play and drifting around on the fringe of the ruck or down the blindside where he can get into a one-on-one situation.

that's true 1eyed. The blokes I watched it with commented on Hindmarsah not having any runs, but more often than not when a forward was hitting it up Hindmarsh was by his side waiting for the offload that never came. Similarly, he was sometimes seen in the middle of the backline as the ball was cut out, waiting to take advantage of any line break.

Add on top of that his massive tackle count, and he played extremely well

Watched the game with two English league fans on a big screen in a pub...

Quote: "That long 'aired git Hindmarsh tackles everything. He's certainly got no fear."

Glad the paper recognised his efforts - Hindy must've loved being part of a winning team.
