Group 19 closes door on Moree Boomerangs

ONCE more the Moree Boomerangs have been denied the chance to play the game they love.
On Monday night representatives from the club met with officials from Group 19 to apply for entry into the 2004 competition.
They left disappointed after being defeated by a majority vote, the results of which Group 19 are keeping a secret.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Boomerangs after being denied entry to the Group 4 2004 competition recently.
A frustrated Boomerangs representative Colin Wells said he was sick of being ignored by the Country Rugby League and its affiliates, and that it was unfair the club wasn't given the results of Monday night's vote.
"We're getting tired of the same old thing being said.
"The CRL keeps saying it will look into it for us but so far nothing's been done," he said.
"How come we are not allowed to see how the votes went?
"We'd like to know if it was close or not and the secret ballot comes from the CRL, but they say they have no power over the votes, it's the clubs that vote.
"And that's wrong."
Group 19 president Peter Brissett would give no reason for the Boomerangs' rejection, saying the secrecy of the ballot was in line with the Group's constitution.
"It was a secret ballot in accordance with the constitution, which the Boomerangs were well aware of," he said.
"They put a very good case forward for their entry but there were no reasons given (for the rejection) under the constitution."
Wells said the Boomerangs were now awaiting a further meeting with the CRL for another chance to enter Group 4.
He was hopeful with the possibility of the Moree Boars sitting out 2004 because of the recent bankruptcy of the Moree Leagues Club, that there might be a place for the Boomerangs, but criticised Group 4 for not checking the finances of all clubs during the nominations at last month's AGM.
Group 19 vice-president and former Narwan club president Will Green said Narwan had supported the Boomerangs' application, and it was disappointed they were not accepted.
Group 4 president Frank Fish said the Moree Boars had indicated they would be playing in 2004, but if the Boars were not to play next season the Group "probably would" discuss the Boomerangs being allowed to play.

I thought the Boomerangs problems were years old. Are the CRL still scares. They need to encourage bush teams, especially indigenous based ones.

Anyone have the full story as to why they are STILL banned.

I know they were kicked out a few years ago for fighting so I can only assume they are stilled banned for that reason.

Exactly. Don't you think the punishment has been served.

I'd hate to say it but I do not think the ban would be in place if the Boomerangs were not such an indigenous based club.

I can't see why they shouldn't be allowed to return, they've served a long enough penalty. I can't see why they can't give the results of the ballot at the very least.
