Group 7

Athol Noble retired recently after 42 years as the Group 7 rep for the CRL. In his view Mick Cronin, Tony Branson and Bruiser Maguire were the best ever players to emerge from the Group. That's a big complement to Maguire who as I recall was rated by Warren Ryan as the prototype of the new breed of prop. Not bad for a backrower who made his name for his pace and running game!

Who will ever forget the fend he put on Crusher at Leichardt or the hit he put on Butterfield a few metres out from the Tigers try line (also at Leichardt). It's a big call but Maguire, Stimson and Luke Thompson in my view are similar types of players.

I've said before that Thomo reminds me of stimson, and those who know me know what a huge wrap that is cause i always rated stimo VERY highly.

Good call Brook. I didn't realise Thommo was from Peak Hill. I heard his uncle speak with Blocker on 2GB and Blocker said quite definitely that Luke would make it. His uncle also said that Luke had had a hard life.
