The directors cut is playing on foxtel's showtime greats. There are quite a few scenes left out of the original. The doco on the making is good viewing too. Hearts of darkness (I think).
There was a joke round hollywood because of the delays. Apocalypse When?
My favourite scene is the black soldiers in the bunker playing Hendrix. Water sking behind the patrol boat was a goodun too.
I saw Apocolypse Now, the redux, for the first a few weeks ago. I also saw Full Metal Jacket the day before, also for the first time. Apocolypse Now is a mere whimper in comparison.
Apocalypse Now set the scene for war movies!!!
Full metal jacket was fantastic but Apocalypse now is exceptional.
Thin red line was a good film too, but nowhere near Apocalypse now!
Coppola's film paved the way for these other films! You gotta' respect it!
Anyone who thinks otherwise should be 'napalmed in the morning'!!!!!! Haha
The legendary 'Tour of Duty' series beats them all for hardcore grittiness!!! hehe
None of these are even close to Stripes for truly capturing the essence of battle. That scene where Sargent Hulka was seriously injured due to a wayward mortar shell really brought a tear to my eye.

One of the best war films I've seen was the original 'all quiet on the western front'. I have it on tape somewhere. It was made very soon after ww1 but it is technically very well made. Black and white of course.
