If any player had ever wished to challenge the previous rules legally, I suspect they’d have won - it could easily be argued that the old eligibility rules were discriminatory against Kiwis and Englishmen. You could have 2 players both born and bred in NSW, 1 is allowed to play Origin and represent Tonga, Samoa etc, but the other who’s heritage is Kiwi or English, is not allowed in.
Separately, with a starting front row of Haas and AFB, who can both knock out 80 mins, that means even if you want to give them a break, you only need a replacement prop for a couple of 10 mins stints. Makes the bench rotation for NSW very interesting. Spencer is an obvious one, but I’d probably then go for another high impact middle, and stick someone like Terrell May on the bench, only to be used if Haas or AFB get a game ending injury.
NSW could have a bench full of real impact/game changers. With Yeo at 13 and not generally needing a spell, they’re only going to need to use 4 interchanges on their middles all game (baring serious injury), and that’s if they decide not to play Haas or AFB the full 80.
God knows how Laurie will be able to cope with all those options, his poor simple brain will be pickled.
