Halfback Situation for 2005

Maybe Brian Smith has a plan maybe he will play Tim at half back next year. I mean look at the team around that would make Tims job alot easier. I believe BS will bank on Tim coming through, he has too as there is no other option available. I mean what youngster would not improve behind this mother of a pack.

Mckinnon
Grothe
B Smith
Tahu
Peterson
Moriss
T Smith
Cayless
Riddell
Cannings
Hindmarsh
Morrison
Wagon

Mateo
Afamasaga
Stringer
Tsoulos

Anyone agree?

Whether you like it or not Vella and Burt will be in there somewhere. And Michael Witt will most likely by the first choice halfback.

Well I have not seen the guy but I go on the reports posted here and some of them are conflicting.

For example....

* He's 2 years away
* He's the best thing since sliced bread.
* He was disintersted in a game recently and looked to have next to no involvement.
* He's the best thing since sliced bread.

Michael Witt's the obvious choice at halfback, I'd like to see Smith get a go in first grade though.

I dont think Witt has taken his oppurtunity. I'll say the same thing about Tim if he doesn't take his when the Time comes.

Witt has to improve Passing game play making skills and getting involved more in the plays just like a real half back. And Leading the team around the Park. Basically he needs to improve 100% to where he is now.

We need a decent 5/8, more than we need Witt to improve. The forwards have to do well though.

the halves will have an easier job, behind that pack

Vella in premmy league

cant see it hapening tho, he will be a bench player next year, and I think Stringer will have to prove himself before getting a walkup start in first grade.

Witt's biggest problem is his maturity. I know he is only 20 but there are plenty of young HB's in the comp that carry themselves on the field better than Witt. Hindy has been quoted as saying that Witt is unsure about telling the older players what to do but that is not going to cut-it at that level. Those sorts of issues don't seem to have affected guys like Firman, Head, Williams etc who took the reins straight away. I'm hopeful that will pass but unfortunately if it doesn't, Smith might very well have the same issue if he is given a go.

Give Witt a go behind the pack as stated above - in all honesty the kid has never had a decent pack to work behind other than the PL one. Half the time he doesn't seem to know if he's a five eight, a halfback or playing at all...... stick him there give him time less the criticism and see what happens. If it doesn't work then whatever money we have free with the loss of Dykes, Vaealiki etc we throw at Orford. Simple

I think that Afasamaga will push Morrison back to lock.

I think Witt will perform much better behind a pack like that.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I went to www.superleague.co.uk and went to all the club sites at the top of the page to look at their halves.

Honestly, I could only see Sean Long and maybe that Paul Deacon bloke who played tests against us last year as the only 2 that would rate. You could throw Sculthorpe in ther but I doubt that Sculthorpe is the type of player we are looking for??

Think Sculthorpe plays lock in the same team as Long when fit these days.

Leeds' half Danny Maguire and Hull half Richard Horne (both wear 6) have been the form halves here this past month or so. Both are 22 their peaks look to be just around the corner. Should be world beaters next year.

I reckon we just give Witt a bit of time. We signed him for four years last year, so are obviously expecting him to develop over that time, not to be a star instantly at the start of it. He could be at the world beater level in a year or two, playing behind a dominant pack.
