Halifax 23 Castleford Tigers 14

Attendance:3,925

Highlights:
-Our first defeat under Dave Woods. Not bad going.
-Great turnout from Castleford

Lowlights:-Quite a few players failed to match Halifax physically. We completed very few sets, and made stupid errors early on in the tackle count.
-Also, our discipline was poor, whereas over the last few weeks it has improved somewhat.

BOOM of the match: Can't really remember any.

Referee Rating: J. Leahy 5/10. Reading the comments on the message boards, and listening tot he BBC Radio Leeds phone in, a lot of people balmed the referee. Yes he wasn't brilliant, but look at it from a neutral point of view (if you can)-What about the one or two high tackles on Damien Gibson which weren't penalised? Or when Andrew Henderson (who had a great game, don't get me wrong) did a spear tackle? This could quite easily have been 10 minutes in the sin bin. There was just one glaring error-when he failed to put the tackle count back to 1 after a Halifax player clearly got his hand to the ball.
For me, Mr Leahy had an average game but to blame the defeat on the referee is stupid.

How many Cas Fans? 1,900-2,200

How noisy were the Cas Fans? Quite noisy, but that 's**t on the bast*rds below song' is annoying me. What's the point? And I know I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Comedy Moment: Can't think of one. Mr Purrfect, you missed a golden opportunity!

My MOTM: Michael Shenton continued his scoring run, scoring both of Castlefords Tries. Waine Pryce went well, Aaron Smith worked hard with little reward. But I'm going to give this to Andrew Henderson who tackled very well, and made few, if any mistakes.

In a nutshell: While it's disappointing to go out, this is our first defeat. A lot of the doom and gloom merchants are out now, forecasting an average season. You have to remember when Huddersfield were in this league they LOST 42-10 (or something like that) at Doncaster in the Challenge Cup, yet went on to comfortably win the league. I'm not saying we will also walk the league, what I am saying is we have lost 1 game, and even though we completed few sets today, we lost by 9 points. With Frank Watene back, and our first choice halfbacks Kain and Handforth playing I'm confident we will go well.
Next up, Rochdale who ran Salford very close.

Gotta lose for the first time sometime... I don't think this loss or not having a cup run is a huge concern for Cas in the League this season.
