Halves are hot to trot

12 Jan 11 @ 03:42pm by JASON AVEDISSIAN

GUN Manly five-eighth Kieran Foran is promising more flair in his NRL partnership with Daly Cherry-Evans this season.
For the second year on the trot Manly coach Des Hasler will form a new halves pairing following the summer departure of Trent Hodkinson to the Bulldogs.
Foran and Cherry-Evans will gang up again, rekindling their teamwork established over two years in the Toyota Cup.
And the New Zealand half is certain the partnership will mean more tries for the Sea Eagles in 2011.
“Hopefully there will be a bit of flair and excitement,” Foran said.
“Daly is that kind of player who will chance his arm and allow me to play my game a little wider.
“He’s capable of stepping up and doing a great job.”
Cherry-Evans, who steered Manly’s 2009 Toyota Cup team to the minor premiership alongside Foran, said he is comfortable in his union with the Kiwi.
“We had a very good relationship in the halves,” the Queenslander said.
“It’s very exciting to be partnering up with Kieran again.
“I haven’t been there (NRL) before, but I know with Kieran there I’ll be able to play my own game.
“Kieran is a great half to play with, he’s very experienced.”
The most experienced player of the lot at Brookvale is also certain Cherry-Evans will make an immediate impact, just like Hodkinson last year.
“I think he’ll have just as big an impact as Trent if not bigger,” skipper Jamie Lyon said.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but we are quietly confident that he can do a great job.
“He’s a very good organiser, he’s got good ball skills and a great kicking game. He’s very quick off the mark.
“He’s going to be a great halfback for us.”

Anyone who saw them together in Toyota Cup would have to be a little bit excited to see them together in the top grade.
