Ok.

We have released our best hlafback/five-eighth for whatever reason.

We are left with Witt, Morris and POSSIBLY Marsh as the only seasoned players who can play in the halves.

It is my opinion that Witt should get first crack (and a decent, long crack at that) at the halfback spot.

That leaves Morris and POSSIBLY Marsh to fill in the 5/8 void.

If we don't sign Marsh, it only leaves Morris. I like Morris. I think he has strong defence, a good kicking game, good passing and good vision, and he even has a knack for doing the right thing at the right tme (eg: he'll put up a bomb on the last instead of, like Thorman, chipping for himself).

But I also propose something else - I think we could drop Graham and Burt (when they are both at 100% fitness) to PL and put them at 5/8.

I know that Burt s a great runner, he has a decent kicking game and kicks goals. I don't know how his passing game or vision is. But if he is given half a chance, he could turn out to be like Preston (not in the same league; in the fact they are both nippy 5/8's).

Once Graham is fit, we all know he can hit holes, he has great hands, he has vision, he has pace and (at least last year) he had good defence.

If we are willing to experiment (NB: these suggestions are only there if we do not sign another half), I am sure we could be pleasantly surprised.

I don't think Burt oozes enough confidence to play such an important role in the team. Marsh has that confidence and that spirit.

If Danny Buderus smashes him whilst at 5/8, he'll probably go mia

To be honest, I only mentioned Burt because others thought it would be a good idea.

I really think Ash has the attributes to be a good 5/8.

He has pace.

He hits holes nicely.

He is strong.

He has great hands.

Last year, his defence was OK.

I just do not know if he has any kicking game and how much his vision has changed since the injury.

Ditto.

I think he'd make a great passing 5/8, would be able to get plenty of balls out to our centres.

Agreed.

I mean, it would be hard on Morris for him not to get the nod ahead of Ash.

But IF we don't sign another half and Witt gets injured, then Morris will probably go to halfback and we need a 5/8. In BS's world, Wagon will go to 5/8. But maybe Ash, having played there in PL to get accustomed to it, could fill in.

Ash does have the skills to play 5/8 in the future and when fully fit IMHO

but if given a decent chance until the end of the season, Witt has the chance to cement his spot in the team and probably at halfback, but next year (depending on PJ) i can see several possibilities, beginning with......

9. Riddell

6. Morris
7. Witt

6. Marsh
7. Witt

6. Marsh
7. Morris

6. Witt
7. Marsh
14. Morris

but, the point is, if PJ does return i think we are well covered, especially considering there is Tim Smith, Feleti Mateo and yes even Ash Graham in reserve to play in the halves.....and even Wags ;-)

I wouldn't rule out Blake Green, I rate him higher than Smith however he is on the injured list at the moment.

Blake Green is going to be a champion player. He is very strong and has sublime skills has a great kicking, passing game and can direct a team around the Park.

Im hoping that Smith and Green will be our halfs combo going into the future.

Yeah!! his definitely somone to look at, only problem is we've said that about several of our up and coming Half backs.

I wonder whats wrong with him and when he'll be back?, I'm sure young Chris Law is making most of his opportunitys deputising for him.

well we could argue this till the cows come home......

firstly i would LOVE to see an official announcement stating that PJ Marsh has been given (or will be in the near future) a full medical clearance to play footy and that Parra and the Warriors have worked out a release for him to come back to Parra

Green and Nathan Armitt are representing the Aust School Boys thats why they are not playing.

I believe that T Smith and Green are the best junior halfs we have had in yonks, Just give them time. Both of these young players have jumped up a grade in one season so we need to be patient.

But a lot will depend on their short term development JTS IF injuries occur like they have in the past two years. They are young and talented but unlike a lot of star juniors recently - Hunt, Williams, Slater, Tonga etc - they would have to come in and lead a team from the start. Most often than not this does hamper the development long term of these players - its been evident in the past at Parramatta. It would be of benefit long term to sign a Luke Dorn or a Lachlan Russell who while they may not be long term options they could well help the development of Green and Smith by keeping them in PL andallowing them the time to develop.

That being said until they play first grade we don't know if they will or won't make it. But for every Brad Fittler or Peter Sterling that make it there is a Will Robinson or Craig Weston that don't.
