Happy Birthday Newtown

Tomorrow Jan 8 the Newtown Jets celebrate another year as Australia's oldest rugby league club making it 97 years old and still hanging in there. Despite vindictive attacks from John Qualye and Arko when they took over the running the NSWRL and reneging on an agreement to help support the club until it moved to Campbelltown the Jets refuse to buckle.

Still the same finances as 97 years ago, bugger all but rich in tradition, history and pride, may our oldest club continue to breath and grow bringing new fans to the game.

27 years to the day ahead of Elvis. His birthday gig would be coming up too.

There are other links between the King and Newtown beside the birthday, Jeffles:

He did "Indescribably Blue", "Moody Blue", "A Mess of Blues", "Blue Christmas", "Blue Moon", "Blue Moon of Kentucky", "Milkcow Blues Boogie" and tons of other "Blue" songs.

The King is definitely a Jets fan. He's been spotted on the hill at Henson a number of times. He just doesn't get off from his job at the burger shop that often on Saturday arvos.

As I'm sure he'd say himself:

"TCB* Bluebags". Happy birthday to both of us."

(*TCB = "Take Care of Business")

Regards,
TDT-1

Go The Bears, That would not be a nice way to celebrate the birthday now would it. You wont need any help given that a number of Storm players will be performing for the new look bears in the first game.
