like many a west tigers fan iam starting to wonder has ou man sheens, lost it!
His team selections week in and week out are questionable at best. Its harder to get dropped from the tigers than the australian crickect side. His tactics,or should i say game plans seem to be one dimentional. The old one game plan for all teams all games and all conditions .but i think what irks me the most is his selection and use of the bench.Yesterday against the storm,he introduced into the game for the first time at the 21minute mark of the second half, bronson harrison. Now the kid was good enough to make the kiwi squad for the test, but only good enough to come on after the storm just put 3 three trys on 5 minutes, with 19minutes left on the clock. He picks fitzhenry every week as his sudo craig wing, the bench man that catches the big men tiring.has yet to make a break after 1/2 a season. He also uses only one prop off the bench. The tigers have ths smallest pack going around,so i would have thought you need two big impact units comming off the bech--ie lima and meridith--now the season is GONE,and you are dreaming if you think other wise,he has to start looking at some new players from within, because he cant recruit ten quality players from outside for next year.He has never been known as a coach that takes a risk, well now is the time.Okay granted he has put some respect back into the place, but at the moment he is more worried about what the teams going to get beaten by(IE A BLOWOUT)than what they are going to win by.Make some team changes and start mixing it up a bit--this team isnt very far away from being a good one,but at the moment is going backwards.Their a team that just looks like their not a happy unit, but thats probaly because their season going pear shape--anyway tim,if your tired, pass the baton to a new coach,if not start having a look at yourself for answers

Paragraphs!!!!

couldnt read it all as my eyes went blurry, but I was wondering the same thing myself. The tigers looked good early on in the year but it looks like they have to start planning for next year. There's some good young players coming through with a mix of experience but it just sint happening.

perhaps it's time to look forwards to a new coach

Mr. Sheens simply hasn't got the players to mount a serious premiership challenge with.

Still, I think there are plenty of good wins for the Tigers before the year is out.

Never taken a risk? This is the coach who took an unknown fijian union player and turned him into one of the most prolific try scorers of the 90s. He went to NZ and scouted players by the names of John Lomax, Quentin Pongia and Ruben Wiki and won a premiership with them. I do agree with most of what you said though.

Yet more lets blame the coach people.

same thing happened at Parra with Brian Smith
and with the Cowboys when ironically Sheens was there

The players have to take a large amount of the blame for poor performances the coach can only do so much he isn't the one out there dropping balls and missing tackles.

Maybe some of Sheens' decisions weren't the best and yes Fitzhenry has had some shockers but in the lower grade games I've seen from both Balmain and Wests there wasn't much pressure being put on him, I will admit to only seeing them when they played Parra and on the odd occasion at other times.

I wouldn't swap him for anyone. The young blokes that are coming through will be the backbone of our side over the next decade and an experienced coach like Sheens will be invaluable to them.

He is also a coach that players want to come to our club to play for, that's not something we've had for a long time.

He can't play for them, it's not like he clocked off for 20 minutes on Sunday.

What sh*t. Wish I wasn't banned at the official so I could tell you all what f***ing morons you are.

The blame people are heaping on Sheens is ridiculous. We don't HAVE any decent players to replace the current crop with. Last week people were whinging Harrison wasn't being used right and his defense in the ruck is too weak. Sheens holds him back and plays him on the fringe and cops sh*t again. If the forwards had done their job in the first 15 of the 2nd half we'd be fine. But they didn't. Why? Because they ain't good enough.

Our defense was great in the first half, yet people blame Roycey for our efforts in the second half. It is the players who clocked off, not Royce or Tim. What a joke some of you Tigers' fans are.

I agree with you pretty much.

But I must say that some of his selections are VERY puzzling to say the least. Yet in saying that, he doesn't have much to work with at all.

All these people calling for some youngsters to be given a go need their head checked. BOTH of our PL sides are sh1t. Jeff Lima couldn't even make the Balmain bench a couple of weeks ago and now you want him in FG?

Sure there are a couple of very promising players back there, namely Collis and McDonnell and maybe Greally as well, but there sure as hell isn't much else.

Christ, get your f**king hands off it people.

BTW, what were you banned for?

He was at the Cowboys for 5 years, and they went nowhere. He's very overrated IMO...

Graeme Murray came to the Cowboys and now they're up there with the best in the competition...all in the space of a couple of seasons.

Spot on. I can't work out what Sheens is supposed to do. He's working with a terrible pack. The thing is, they are probably all first graders. Having said that, together they don't make a first grade pack. Basically every other pack has at least one superstar. We don't.

Got banned for a disparaging comment about campbelltown's education. Probably deserved. It's only for a week. It's frustrating seeing the sh*t being bandied about.

Jordan,

You are right on the ball there cos Sheensey did almost bugger all at the Cowboys and I heard that he had almost no say at all. It was two certain ex-dictators (I think you know who I am talking about) that picked the team every week.

I even heard that if any of the players wanted anything, they went to Murray Hurst cos Sheensey didn't even want to know.

In the first two years that Sheens was at the Cowboys, he increased the winning percentage from the previous season (although admittedly that wasn't very hard to do). It wasn't really until the 'train crash' of 1999 that he started losing his shine in my eyes, although Jordan and Bernster are absolutely spot-on in their historical assessment of Sheens.

Interestingly, if the Cowboys continue at their present rate, by the time Murray leaves the club, he will be the first Cowboys coach with a winning record:

For purposes of comparison:

Grant Bell (1995) - 2 wins, 20 losses
Graeme Lowe (1996) - 6 wins, 15 losses
Tim Sheens (1997-2001) - 27 wins, 4 draws, 73 losses
Murray Hurst (2001-2002) - 4 wins, 1 draw, 12 losses
Graham Murray (2002- ) - 40 wins, 1 draw, 43 wins

Apoligies for getting the topic off track

My one real gripe is the replacement of an outside back for the last 5 weeks, just to get Daniel Fitzhenry in the team.

Its like under 8's when the coach has to give everyone a run, even the kid that cant catch the ball or would rather play barbies on the sideline.

Name another team that uses an interchange by replacing a Winger or centre that isnt injured ?
