Has Sheens played his trump card?

News reports recently talk about How Benji said he, Farah and Heighington had all signed a statement saying they'd quit rugby league if Sheens wasn't re-signed last year.

Now I see in another thread that Lawrence will sign on with the Tigers once Sheen's has decided on his career.

He's got 4 of our key players all on his side. He has the club over a barrell.

He will coach for as long as he likes and will essentially hold the club ransom.

Dirty tricks if you ask me.

It is dirty pool, but if they re-sign Sheens for 1 more year, maybe 2,then Rowdy signs long term, they will still have all their best signed long term and Sheens could still be pushed out if need be.
None have a get out clause, even Benji said it wouldn't be the end of the world if Sheens left, but he would rather he stayed.

Benji doesn't have the sheens clause in his contract anymore, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Any player in the competition who wants to stick to a coach will have it drawn into their contracts that they have right to have contract null and voided if coach is sacked I personally don't see an issue with that The next point would be if they get rid of Sheens who would you get to replace him Is their at the moment anyone off contract you WOULD want to coach the tigers that will come here and coach Bennett won't Don't want Ricky Stuart or Phil Gould so who else is there ????????

Peter Gentle or Paul Fletcher.

It is more efficient and cost effective to recruit from within (like playing talent) with coaching staff familiar with systems and players.

if we did get either of these 2 I think we would struggle ti attract talent and could lose talent Were would we be then ??

I think a huge point is being missed here.....

If sheens has played his trump and marshall, heighnington, farah and perhaps Laurance have only signed on because of a sheens extension I see that could be a great boost for us.

That would be the nucleaus of a side for the next 5 seasons. Does that not give sheens the power to recruit who he wants, when he wants based on the quality and finishing that he already has at his disposal?

With the likes of fifita comming through last season, there has to be players in the u/20's with similar value and impact to the senior side. Imagine the bargining tool for talent for the next few years on young players comming through.

That's a fair point, Bricey.

I'm resigned to Sheens being around for another season or two, maybe it is time to start looking for the positives...

I just can't get over the sacking of a CEO on his say so, though. He has way too much clout on the dark side of the park.

So the suggestion is Tom Shines put them up to it?

Is it possible they did of their own accord?

The only thing I am suggesting is that sheens may have extra clout at recruitment time beacuse of the tallent he has locked into long term deals.

Anything else you read from that post is your own assumption

Totally agree Bricey I can't see how we can buy more talent though with the cap probably near full I just hope we can keep this side together for 2-3 years and reap the rewards if they play to potential I think Sheens is the coach to lead club for at least 2-3 years also. He has recruited the players that he thinks can win the premiership with these players To get another coach that will want to play a different style with different players in mind will put us back we are a big show this year as long as injuries are kind to us HAVE FAITH

Four of our most senior players are right behind Sheens. And this is a bad thing?

Nope its good but, there is one huge proviso- Sheens has to be going in the right direction too. His record is not remarkable- since the 05 premiership, 2010 good, 2006- 09 slipshod.

I don't know, I'm just throwing the topic open.

He had a bit of pressure applied to him last season, if he didn't make the finals he could have been given the arse. Not sure how official it was, but there was talk, and thats enough sometimes.

But with players threatening to quit playing altogether (not just the tigers) is a pretty big call and I don't think you could rule out that Sheens has had a word to them to sure up his coaching career a bit more.

Players say they back coach....there's something new
there is a difference Vic.

They are saying they support their coach, they are threatening to retire if their coach isn't retained.

It's all in the context.

A good indication of the respect the players have for Sheens. He should be with the Tigers for years enjoying the benefit of new squad he has assembled.

Hopefully a few of the younger players in addition to Woods, such as Tagive and Miller, make their way into the 17. Both are gamebreakers needed to have a chance of being in the Top 8.

We will need to have a strong squad as I think we will be losing a few at origin time Tuquiri Lawrence possibly Gallaway ,Heighington Farah The younger guys will need to step up when they are needed sheens is good as slowly blooding younger players
