FOUR Hawks players have been named in the Central West under 17 Academy squad after three intense training session which reduced the squad from 36 to 20.
Keiran Copeland, Michael Gersbach, Sean Blacklow and John Rose all earnt selection in the development squad and will be able to use the squad's sessions to see what goes on at the senior level according the Group 10 president Paul Rossiter.
"They will continue training in January and February and it will coincide with the Group 10 senior, under 21 and under 18 sides training," Rossiter explained.
"There were three tough training sessions before the squad was selected and so now there are 36 players who now know what the requirements are to continue on."
As well as the training session the squad will play a curtain raiser match against the Penrith under 17 development squad for an NRL match, possibly the round four clash between Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm.
"It will all culminate in a tour to New Zealand which is open to squad members, those who missed out on squad selection and we also open it up to disadvantaged players from out west," Rossiter said.
"They will leave the Sunday before the NRL grand final and get home on the grand final day."
Rossiter said the aim of the academy squad, which is sponsored by Group 10 and Penrith Panthers, is developing the players from juniors into the senior ranks.
"The focus is on developing them from Group 10 under age players to be potential players for the Group 10 under 18s side," he said.
"We want to continue the excellent work done by the junior group 10 rugby league into the seniors."
