Probably the worst thing to come out of all this Jarryd Hayne stuff is all the people who have no idea about NFL come out and act like experts. Facebook is rife with it at the moment. Some guy suggest he could be a DE or OLB. Hahaha.

He could be both a punter and a return guy while learning the RB/WR position.

If he gets a shot at Punter and return guy as basically an all-round special teamer...that would open up a roster spot for a team to bring in another key contributor.

Could be a valuable asset.

Has there ever been a punter who does anything except punt?

Yeah that's a good point, if he can develop into a good punter and KR/PR specialist, that's not a bad way to save a roster spot, but that's going to be hard for him to do. His boot is good but it's not AFL good, least of all Sav Rocca good.. and Sav was a shit NFL punter

A few years/decades ago it wasn't unheard of for punters to act as 3rd or 4th string desperation QBs I believe.

Exactly. Theoretically he sounds like someone who could do a lot of things - but realistically he won't be able to do anything at the standard of an NFL starter and that means he is going to really struggle.

A jack of all trades translated to 'cut' in the NFL.

Yep agreed, no way he can go over there and be an elite punter, yeah he can kick a 40/20 but they're both pretty different kicking skills

QB's would abuse him as a DB, WAY too much technique to learn to make it there

same with RB, all the reading of blocks, defenses, pass pro, routes etc

It's got to be a home run WR/KR imo. Get him to run posts/corners/go/slants out of the slot position

I could see him playing as an up in the box safety. But regardless of what position he plays it will require a lot of learning and practise by Hayne.

I envy the guy. Wish I was in his shoes.

That why I'm here, I figure one of you might know what you are talking about. So far just gibberish everywhere.

Lol a DE, that would be pretty funny to see though. He will be a punt returner and if he can pick it up quick enough a slot WR. If he was to go DEF, then an in the Box Safety could be his thing, but he would be murdered in Coverage.

Yeah RL kicking doesn't really translate.

He cant play defense, too much to learn, too small for the line, too limited for safety given what he knows of the game, how to read it etc, qbs would be able to manipulate him very easily as a DB, and he doesn't have the instincts to play LB, that is a NFL career position, it's defensive qbs, you need to have really sound knowledge of the opposition and be able to anticipate using years of experience to play in the LB spot

Kick return, gunner and a back up WR is his best hope, if he can develop into a decent returner and gunner, he can earn a roster spot there and get time to develop as a WR, and even then I give him about a 2% chance on making it, anything else and I give absolutely no shot at all

I joked in the main forum but I'll bring it up seriously here...

Could he be a kicker?? Is the goal kicking dynamic really different from RL/RU??

Obviously timing is different... The ball is different... And the rush/place holder makes it different...

But they aren't the hardest kicks in the world...

Miss one FG you should make in the NFL and you're close to being cut, lot more pressure.

He could try. But it hasnt worked out well for Alex Henery, who spent a life time trying to be an NFL kicker.
