But Hayne said fellow elite players

Talk about overrating yourself

You are aware that Hayne didn't actually say "my fellow elite players", right??

The journo wrote that part.

Either way he is absolutely in the elite of our game. He is responsible for helping the game achieve its biggest non-grand final crowd of all time, making the SOO series this year seem even the slightest bit close, and bringing parramatta some much needed success.

To say he is not an elite player of our game is farcical.

Hayne you are overrated you only played 6-9 games and only excel against weak defensive teams and teams didnt play thier best, Hayne you failed for the first 14 rounds , you failed at 5/8 you failed at centre
hayne you arent a play maker, you were the worst eels player at the beginning of the year

Oh wow, he isn't great playing in positions that he is not suited for..... who'd a thunk it??

How does lockyer go at halfback? f**king sh*t house.

How would Thurston go at fullback? f**king sh*t house.

How would any player go putting them completely out of position? f**king sh*t house.

Until you can perform against the better teams then you may talk

In 2009 he dominated the storm (r19, not GF), bulldogs, dragons and QLD. Don't know how much better teams are supposed to get than those 4.

Gaba, Thurston may be an elite player , but he is not marketable in the same way. Despite the fact he plays for a club that knocked yours out of the semis, how many more fans does Hayyne bring to a game, many more than Thurston, and even female fans which is not a market that Thurston appeals to.

In the end, he has much more to offer

Media hype for the grandfinal crowd , yes the state of origin games Hayne was the best nsw player no arguement but the rest of the team didnt put much pressure on

To say he is not an elite player of our game is farcical.

./QUOTE]

Depends on what you class as elite playing good for 3 games then playing good against weak defensive and poor opposition

or being consistant all year around- i would class that as elite

.

Lockyer was fullback turned into a 5 /8

Hayne is a fullback& winger tried other position and failed

Hayne said he wanted to play 5/8 so its his fault that he failed

If hayne didnt want to have a go in that position then the coach wouldnt have put him there, so you cant say hayne was put out of position

They barely beat Melbourne without Cameron Smith and Greg Inglis with Dallas Johnson playing hooker. Thats not dominating.

There are on the record quotes from Anasta saying that he was looking forward to the challenge of playing fullback, so you can't always assume that because a player says they are happy to try a position they've been placed in that it is the truth.

And despite all of that, his less than brilliant performances at 5/8 take nothing away from his stunning ability at fullback. Give him more than 6 or so shots at it, and a full deck of rep forwards and backs like lockyer had at his disposal when learning the position, and he might have turned out better.

Hayne is only stating what every other player is thinking, that's something to be commended rather than criticicized. If you don't agree, then fair enough, but he's really said nothing out of the ordinary and explaining why others have been tempted to turn their back on rugby league in Australia. The fact he is sticking with the NRL and Parramatta is only a good thing for the game.

whilst id rather we be refocusing ont he psoitive notion that he's re-signed, i think we are getting to the stage they need to re-evaluate the rules with third party agreements and sponsorships and the nRL seems to have its ehad in the sand in regards to this.

if we have an obvious rort where a current rep player signs for $100k and gets topped up by a thrid party sponsor for $500k then it should be stopped, but lets take hayne as an example - he's just signed for however much which puts him towards the top for the NRL. if 5 sponsors want to come on board and each throw $100k at him it should be allowed. the more we can see players in the media the greater the profile for league.

currently we have these crap limits on thrid party deals which restrict income. if it isnt being sued to rort the cap let them earn what they can otherwise you'll have people like danny wicks supplementing their income in other ways

Gaba said:
Actually he is spouting for more money after this contract is up and using the old line of going to another code for more money

I'm not going to argue with you Gaba, it would be less painful to masturbate with a cheese grater, but two important points from the article that you seem to have glossed over;

"you want to play against the best. You don't want to see them go."
""When you start off playing sport, that's the reason you play [for the challenge]."

They want to see the best players stay in the game as much as we do.

"Hayne's agent Wayne Beavis said his client's youth had worked in the NRL's favour on this occasion"

In 4 years, Hayne will be 26, only a few years left as an elite sportsmen and money would start to weigh more heavily on your mind. It would only get harder to knock back significantly more money the closer to the end you get.

See it as a money grab if you like, I think it's genuine concern on his part for the state of the game and its future.

Was thinking the same. To see a nuffy like Gower alongside names such as Gasnier and SBW is laughable!
the bloke played for nsw and australia, and did somethint that gasnier couldnt and thats win a ring......and hes someone that i would have gladly seen in the NSW #7 jumper for the last two series....wouldnt exactly call him a nuffie

Just don't understand why they don't let clubs have two marquee players outside the cap who can be paid whatever the clubs can afford to pay them. Reality is we are only talking about the most exciting top players and there aren't more than 20 of them in the game at any one time. If ltd to two it won't have massive impact on the haves and have nots clubs and will keep our best in the game. Costs the NRL nothing and, as said raises the NRL's profile through seeing players in adverts etc.
