Apparently its a big seller
If it makes you feel better to think that no-one could possibly start from humble beginnings and do well for themselves then knock yourself out, cabin boy.

Plenty can do well for themself. Especially if the posts are low.
What do you do for work Gary? And do you come from a wealthy family?

I’m not suggesting it should be easy to start with nothing and end up a millionaire. It shouldn’t be.

I am highlighting that it is possible and that a number of people have done it.

If we changed the question from ‘start with nothing and end up from comfortably wealthy’ then I suspect there are quite a number of examples of where it has happened.

People assume that everyone who is wealthy is born into money but my experience indicates otherwise. Maybe I hang out with different people than Hindy does?

Not everyone. An extremely high percentage. My guess is 99% are wealthy due to family born into.
How does someone out of home at 20yld with nothing, needing to pay living expenses have the money to take a risk to get wealthy?
Or is your nothing someone without money but the family support if all else fails?
Sure it can happen Gary. But its more likely that the best outcome would be to own their own house and go on the odd holiday.

I think people tend to underestimate how much a role chance plays in going from nothing to wealthy. You say "a number of people" have tried and succeeded, but the people who have tried and failed is also a number, and I reckon that number is magnitudes higher than the first number.

Yes that is what it probably means. I learnt a new skill though. And now it costs me nothing so who knows may come good at some point right?
It's not too hard to develop your skills such that your labour is worth something to others. Obviously that is owning a job rather than a business but it can support you right up until retirement. After that you need to have been smart with your surplus income.

I call busllshit Gary.
How does one with nothing in this day become wealthy? Bitcoin?

Depends what you call wealthy. Id say owning your own home and collecting atleast say 2k a week without having to work.
If they are still needing to work 40hrs a week to live they have the same amount of free time as everyone else. Money buys you time. There just getting paid more to survive or feel better about themself is not wealthy.
People closer to 50 may of been LUCKY with property boom. That dream is over.

Capitalism works for a certain amount of years. After that it becomes a merkin of a thing and creates a greedy dog eat dog world society. Focus of importance get pointed in the wrong direction. Then it seperates people into classes.
People dont help people cause they put so much value in ownership of items.
Unfortunately in Australia we have reached this stage now. It would be extremely difficult to jump a class your born into. World globalisation has ruined the small business dream. House prices have crushed the souls of people wanting to own a little place they can call home. The gap gets greater between the 3 classes. The problem can only get worse.
This is what I was originally responding to.

Is it difficult to become independently wealthy? Yes.

Will more people fail than succeed? Yes.

Is it impossible. No.

We live in a different, more globalised world but it is not impossible to become comfortably wealthy on your own terms.

Does luck play a part? Sure, but the harder you try, the ‘luckier’ you get.

I also said “it’s not easy” implying that it is hard and therefore doesn’t commonly occur.

I am well aware that lots more people fail than succeed and wasn’t suggesting otherwise.

Most successful people work their dicks off. I would assume it is a pre-requisite and even then it doesn’t guarantee success.
I even know a couple of failures who did. People who were given bad advice in their formative years, who didn't understand the nature of the risks, and who had some fatal personality flaws as well. But had great work ethic.

I agree though that hard work is essential. I was always the smartest kid at school but until I grew up (at about 30, unfortunately) success eluded me due to poor work and money habits.
