Titans run has Parramatta '09 feel: Hayne

Gold Coast recruit Jarryd Hayne says there's no limit to what the Titans can do this NRL season following their 19-18 win over Wests Tigers.

13 August 2016

Jarryd Hayne is back and he's got that 2009 feeling all over again.

Hayne erased any doubts about how long it will take him to warm to the task as he kicked a brilliant field goal to seal a nail-biting 19-18 NRL win over Wests Tigers at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday.

The victory ensures the Titans will finish the weekend inside the top eight and with three rounds remaining they are shaping as a real dark horse of the premiership.

Hayne proved he was ready to be the side's X-factor and he knows all about helping a side coming from the clouds.

Seven years ago Hayne struck form, the likes of which the competition hasn't seen since.

He guided the Eels from third last with eight rounds remaining all the way to the grand final.

And Hayne said there was no ceiling on how high the Titans could go this year.

"Once our attack starts to flow, our defence is at a high standard, I think that's what will put us in good stead," Hayne said.

"We're in a bit better position than where we were at at Parra back in `09, we've still pretty much got to win the last two out of three games.

"If we can get a rhythm in attack, anything's possible."

Hayne returned to the NRL last week after he failed to make the Fiji Rugby Sevens squad for the Rio Olympics and might have been asking himself what could have been after watching the side claim gold.

However rather than be bitter at his missed chance at an Olympic medal, he attributed his memorable field goal to the skills he learnt during his brief stint in rugby.

After Titans halfback Ash Taylor and Tigers five-eighth Mitchell Moses both missed two attempted one-pointers, Hayne stepped up to the plate with eight seconds on the clock and iced the game.

"As soon as I got the ball I just sort of went back into my mode when I was at the Fiji Sevens of kicking field goals - that was just to take your time and get the drop right," he said.

"That's probably the biggest thing. If you look in the replays you see I take an eternity to get the ball good, that's why."

f**k, the guy can crap on in the media/social media...

And I had a lol at "Seven years ago Hayne struck form, the likes of which the competition hasn't seen since."

It's been seven years since Hayne struck that type of form as well, and the guy's still going on about it!

On on twitter the guy was even trying to start his own new hashtag... #myhouse

What a calculated, corporate, money-sucking, brand that "boy from minto" (tm) has turned out to be.

That headline is fairly misleading.

Well Freddie perhaps not dumping on the club after not signing with them for whatever reason, after the club has been shitted on all season long?
We're not going to stop Tits from being f**kwits and I'm fine with Hayne signing with them given it's half a mill more a season (anyone that has a go at him for that is a hypocrite) but just perhaps the payback he could have given us for allowing him to chase his dreams all around the globe would be, rather than return to the club, just to think more carefully about where he squats to take his shits

Um ... He won the Dally M for best player in 2014 - but keep on sprouting rubbish Bart.

It's not rubbish. Technically he is right.

As good as he was in 2014 when he got JOINT Dally M, he still wasn't in the form that he was in 2009. What Phantom fails to acknowledge, however is that we are talking about a run of form not seen by any player in the last 30 years, let alone Hayne in the last 7 years.

On NRL 360 the reporter from QLD who has very good sources stated that Hayne landing at the Titans will ground plenty of players careers. Basically

Nene MacDonald is going to the Dragons. David Mead to Manly, Zillman has been told to look elsewhere and they will have difficulties in holding onto Ash Taylor. All up they have 20 players coming off contract next year.

Losing nene, mead and Zillman is no loss. If they lose Taylor then it would be. But Titans have no big stars on big money besides Hayne. I reckon they can afford to keep Taylor

They have three NRL standard halves next year (Elgey, Taylor and Roberts), you'd think one will move on, even if it is mid season next year.
