Many of you may remember this guy from last year. Loads of potential but failed to shine in his one chance.

Brumbies player on bail

ACT Brumbies rugby union winger Henari Veratau has been bailed by police after being charged with robbery following an alleged attack on a taxi driver.

The 20-year-old was arrested and charged by Canberra police with robbery and taking a vehicle without authority.

He was expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

However, the director of public prosecutions Angela Smith said he was bailed by police overnight and ordered to face the court on March 23.

"He was bailed from the watch house some time overnight or early this morning," she said.

"He wasn't in custody this morning."

It's alleged a 38-year-old taxi driver was dragged from his seat after an argument with a passenger over a fare at about 6am (AEDT).

The taxi had just dropped off a woman in Lyneham in northern Canberra and was allegedly directed by another passenger to continue to Kingston in the south, police said.

An argument over payment followed and the male passenger dragged the driver from his seat and fled in the vehicle, police alleged.

Police and the dog squad found the missing taxi about half an hour later in Canberra's north-western suburbs.

Veratau, making his debut with the Brumbies after playing league for the past two years, was stood down from the upcoming tour of South Africa as part of the Super 12 competition.

ACT Rugby Union head Rob Clarke said the organisation was extremely disappointed about the charges and had set up its own internal investigation.

Holla if ya hear me said:

Henari Veratau. Having trouble reading? :)

He was one of our "promising talents." He scored two quick tries in the 2002 Jersey Flegg grand final to bring us back from the death and give us our first Grand Final victory of the day.

Had one shot at first grade last year when we were missing many players to injury and rep duties. Got targetted and failed to come through with the goods. I guess that was enough to scare him into Union.

Apparently the papers were using a old picutre of him in Roosters traing gear (on there websites at least).

And forgive me, but why doesn't that story call the crime for what it was?

Car-jacking

*edit*
I guess Union still has better PR :?
