Well I for one think that this decision sucks. :(

I believe that Mitchell deserved another go at the top job. We are too quick to criticise and dump our coaches in NZ.

In saying this, the decision comes as no suprise as it seems Henry was always loking like becoming the new coach.

Hard luck Mitch, come back and coach Waikato and i have no doubts that you will be All Blacks coach again one day. ;-)

be interesting to see how Henry ans out in the long term, if he gets the chance.

I actually thought they'd stick with Mitch.

Good luck to the new regime.

All I can say is the NZRFU board are just plain incompetent. First of all, the changes to the NPC, which I did not agree with. And now this, which is an even bigger blunder.

John Mitchell is not a complete coach, but can anyone find anyone that would have the ablls to leave Mehrts, Taine, Anton, Christian, Jonah out of an All Blacks squad (Which worked). And the intelligence to use Mealamu, Muliaina and Rokockoko. Combine that with two narrow losses.

First one against England which was decided by Carlos Spencer's boot. Second against Australia, which was a choke, but the only Australian try came from a pass you would only see at reserve grade club level. ( =D> to Carlos).

What the All Blacks have lacked in the past is some bloody consistency in coaching, they have without a shadow of a doubt the best player base in the world, some of the best players in the world. And a country that dominates all age grades and at Sevens on occasions.

The NZRFU should keep a coach for longer than 2 years, then they may start to see a side that gels together perfectly, works as the perfect unit and are professional (like England).

On that note, Mitch ahs said he is searching overseas, so all I can say is ouch. You are going to miss him, Graham Henry has a poor record at international level.

Bad decision. Mitch was offered a job in France 3x the pay he got from the NZRU before he even lost his job. He only lost 4 matches and drew 1, thats somthing like a 80% win record. Thats not bad. I don't like Henry, he will make Carlos Captain and also bring in Rush

Mitchells sacking was pretty harsh given his record & if he was given the boot because of his poor PR skills with the media & sponsors rather than his potential as a coach, then the NZRU have made another dumbarsed blunder.
What got me about Mitch, though, was the fact he didnt seem to take any responsibility for that crucial loss. He would do it all the same way again & it was inexperience on the field that cost us, not poor planning as far as he sees it, which says to me he hasnt learned a thing from what happened. That didnt inspire me with a lot of confidence.

I'll reserve judgement on Henry till after the Tri Nations. One thing he's said that I like is that we need to build leaders in NZ rugby. Thorne's style of leadership may keep the players around him calm, but when the sh*t hits the fan, the guy disappears off the face of the planet. The only other players that have decent leadership skills were missing for all/much of the semi vs Australia; Marshall & Umaga. What we saw with 20 minutes to go was a team with heads down & nobody talking. That should never be allowed to happen again.

Mitchell has been signed as the Waikato NPC Coach. Good loyalty shown by him when being offered a shitlload more overseas.

Smart thinking, too. Mitchells still young & if things dont go too well with Henry in another 2-4 yrs, he'll be a good chance at getting another bite at the cherry, provided he can convince the NZRFU his media/sponsor relations will be better. Apparently that was the main reason he was sacked, his coaching skills were deemed fine. Dont you love 'professionalism' (does NZ rugby understand what the word means?).

Shows how much you really know. Henry said hes going to base his game around lighting attack and iron curtian defence with strong leadership and a decent goal kicker.

Id say hes going to bring in Oliver and see if he can get Cully back. (Hes a Cantab remember....)
