Hindmarsh said it all-and it is disgusting.

I have read that Corey Pearson was at the press conference.....I believe Corey puts his hand up every time someone needs to face the music - he might not be the best player any more, but the guy has a good attitude.

AndI believe Hindy has learnt to stand up and be counted when it comes to the media stuff from all that has happened lately and his time in the SOO team this year.

I can only assume Smithy wasn't at the press conference as there are no quotes from him....either that or he decided to do a Wayne Bennett.

I agree that a new coach always gets some good results quickly due to the fresh motivation thing....but we are after a long term solution aren't we....everyone believes we are top 4 material on paper next year....I hope whoever coaches us can live up to that.

YES WE ARE.

HOW LONG TERM CAN 8 YEARS BE???????????????

Smithy has had his long term.
Time for him to give someone else a chance.

The first 5 of the 8 years were VERY successful....I don't believe Smithy should be blamed for us not winning a GF in that period - we probably should have won 2 or 3....I believe the players were responsible for not getting the glorious GF win everyone demands.

But the last 3 years has been very poor....and while I still don't believe it is all the coaches fault, he undoubtedly must shoulder a big chunk of the blame.

BTW - I am still wondering if you believe Hindy was instructed to say what he said the the press conference.

Not what he said..

He was just there and shouldn't have been. Its not what he is payed to do.

The bit I'm most worried about is this:
Hindy in the Sun Herald said:
" I can't speak for the rest of the guys, but this is definitely motivation for me..."
I'd like to think as a senior player Hindy could be totally sure of his teammates continued motivatation. That's what would happen in a club with confidence at its core. But sadly this season it really hasn't seemed the case...

Poor sod Hindy, shows a lot of character that he's been able to play so well consistently this season, to rep level in what will go down as a very ordinary peformed club side.

Im spewin, a couple of weeks ago Parra was paying $51 for the spoon. I did some calculations and thought it impossible. I was wrong.

I think is shows how out of touch the players - threfore the club - is with the fans. Hindy is saying Smith is a great coach, doesn't deserve the spoon etc. Earlier in the season, Hindy bagged us for booing substandard performances. To me, Hindy is defending the club/Smith FROM the fans, rather than reflecting the issues OF the fans.

If the club - I mean players, coaching staff and board - were intune, they would be doing omething about it. No, it's not Hindy's role to force selection changes or alter game plans, but it is indicative that they have no idea of the reality of the situation.

It's not the time to mount a defence of anyone. It's time to shoulder blame, and forge the response.

Hindy, of all people, being sent to a press conference having to defend our position.
No quotes form Smith in either Sunday Paper.

I believe that Smith fronted the presser....

We're too good to let it happen,

Weren't West Ham, Leeds United to good to drop????

I always get concerned when I read comments like we're to good for this or that. No your not, if you were to good, you wouldnt be in the position

Hindy is a team player. But if Hindy was put under the interregotors spotlight he'd reveal the truth that we all know - Hindy is too good to be playing for the spoon. Sadly the same can't be said of some of his supporting cast or we wwouldn't be where we are today.

This is what our season has come to. Instead of winning the comp or trying to make the finals all we're doing is trying to avoid last place. Hindmarsh can hold his head high. It's just embarrasing though.

After the last try was scored against us On Saturday night, I saw Mckinnon go over to Wagon behind the try line and have a heated arguement with him, they were both pointing to the ref and and I believe wagon ended up saying u go and f***ing speak to him.

Are you serious?

If that doesn't reinforce the fact that Wags is not a good captain ...

If Hindy is volunteering to go to press conferences, if he's trying to be more of a leader ... Why don't we give him the captaincy?

He can speak to refs and would get plenty of respect. He commands respect from players and coaches.

I'd like to see McKinnon handed the captaincy. He talks more than most and as stated above isn't afraid to do it.....

One of the most concerning aspects of our team?

How many players do we currently have playing (in our current team) who have been with us for a while?

There's:

* Vella

* Hindy

* Burt

* Then there's people who have been with us for 2 years, like Muzza, Morris (although he's out injured), Hopkins

And how many players are moving on next year?

* Langi

* Hopkins

* Stapleton

* Muspratt (presumably)

* Dykes

* Thorman

* Pearson

My point is this: I don't like to think about it (because I'd like to think everyone is a professional), but we are struggling badly. Maybe a lot of those blokes don't care, because they're getting a fresh new start with a better deal next year.

Like Stapo. He's tried hard all year. For that we give him th boot. We are struggling, and he may think that he was treated badly. So he knows he will go to another club next year for at least 2 years, and that's where his thoughts may current;y be.

I'm afraid that only the players who have been here while and will be here next year are focused enough to try and not win the Spoon.

One pleasing thing about our recruit is that he have bought guys like riddell, stringer and morrison who all have tremendoius pride and should bring plenty of spirit to the club.

I can't even begin to imagine the heartache.
Arrr, as embarrasing as it is I have to confess I was :oops:

Kinda strange but those days were very similar to recent events.

We were absolute crap in 1970 then Ian Walsh came in and took us to the finals in 1971 when Ken Thornett made a comeback. Start of the following year Walsh had a big fallout with the players and we only won 4 games in 1972 and finished last. 73 and 74 weren't much better but Norm Provan got us on a roll in 75 when he got us to the playoffs again and we should have won in 76 against Manly under Fearnley except for bloody scrum penalties. That was so blatant they changed the rules to prevent kicking for goal from scrum penalties for the next season. Gary Cook was a crook :evil:

This might sound weird, but I wish I wasalive in the 70's and 80's to appreciate it.

Those were the days when footy was great, eh?
