Hindmarsh wants no rest for the wicked.

Inspirational back-rower Nathan Hindmarsh admits he is concerned by the prospect of receiving less game time next season following the clubs recent buying spree.

The NSW and Test workhorse is a proven eighty-minute performer. But with the Eels having boosted their forward stocks with the acquisition of Glenn Morrison, Mark Riddell, Paul Stringer and Chad Robinson, Hindmarsh fears making more frequent trips to the interchange bench in 2005.

"I'm a bit worried about it actually," he told Big League. "I don't mind a little rest here and there but I don't like taking a break unless I really need one."

"We've signed some really good forwards next year, I think Glenn Morrison will make a big impact in the back row, but I'm enjoying my responsibility at Parra and I want to be out on the field as long as possible"

If we were to have 2 second rowers in Hindy and Morrison who can play 80 mins a game every week, thats a huge advantage.

I'd think that would be equivalent to a 4 extra interchange advantage that we'd have to use on our front row forwards over most other teams.

Thing is, Hindy shouldnt need a rest because morrison should be able to take some of the workload off him.

Didn't Brian Smith already come out and say he wanted Hindy & Morrison going for 80 mins on each side of the second row shortly after Morrison's signature was announced (in the papers)?

This is why I think Chad Robinson will be used in the front row. Cannings, Cayless, Stringer, Vella & Robinson will probably be rotated in the front row with Hindy & Morro & possibly Wagon also going for 80 in the back row positions.

Hindy is an 80 minute man, even BS had admitted that

The other guys can share the bench between them

yeh definately, But I think Morrison will play 65 minutes himself. It'll be mainly the props swapping around instead of our second-rowers who will nearly play the entire match.

But surely one of the backrowers will be off when Widders comes on. Once Widders comes on, he usually doesn't come back off

Wouldn't mind seeing Hindmarsh taking a break. He could be back to Hindy of 2001, who was breaking the line and causing havoc for defence when on the field. It comes down to who's more valuable? Workhorse Hindy or Linebreaker Hindy?

I can see something like

Props (interchange as per normal) (6 interchanges per match)
Riddell comes off after about 30 mins back on with about 20 to go (2 interchanges)
Total so far: 8

THen Hindy plays 80 mins
and Widders, Morrison and WAgon shuffle at times WAgs will get 80 mins with Widders 30 and Morrison 50 other games Morrison 80, Widders 40 and Wags 40 other games Widders 50, Wagon 50, Morrison 60.

I would depend on form & how the game is going.

I'm sure Hindy could do 70-75mins, with maybe a well earned break just before and/or after halftime? A shared workload and responsibility means for a better team performance over the 80 mins imo.

It depends on the game and the position we are in. He probably got his spot in rep teams by playing 80 min and doing it well. He needs to be on the side. He ripped em up in Origin playign in the centre positon. Why doesnt Brian see this instead of using him for defense.

Barty boy, the period b4 and after 1/2 time is critical. Probably when we need hindy most.

True. I guess as long as guys like Morrison, Cayless, and Cannings stay fit all year, then the work will be shared around and Hindy can have more energy that way.

He shouldn't worry Riddell is about 20kgs overweight and he normally only plays 30-40 minutes per game. They cant rest everyone.
