for me it was swapping kimmorley for barret

closely followed by no fight for degois for hughes

and a 3rd would be picking up yet another 'troubled' 2nd rower and not recruiting in the outside backs

continued selection of grosely out of form hughes and theputting into center of williams is also quite amazing to me

millers , redback you still havent given your reasons on how kimmorley would be helping us at this stage?

shintaro provided me with the best answer not long ago and it was simply down to bussiness in regards to paying an extra 50k for barrett were we could of used that to try and retain degois. And looking at that answer i tend to probably agree but however kimmorley would not be helping us on the field anymore then barret is.

Hughes for DeGois is the howler out of those 3. Isaac is 10 times the player Hughes is.
I don't mind Wombat in the centres, he's put Fergusen away more than a few times over the last 2 weeks.
Agreed on the lack of outside back recruitment.

oh let me expand then

1. leadership and structure
2. a f**king kicking game
3. see 2 and add field position
4. someone who pressures from dummy half
5. aggression and example in defence
6. leading a kick chase to maximise 3

Have to agree on at least point 6.
Our kick chase was that bad on Saturday night you would have thought all of the dragons players had some from of communicable disease.

I remember one kick to Wendell's wing that did an about face and sat up for any enthusiastic chasers. Now, bucket arse dell takes a freaking long time to turn his gluteous maximus around but how many sharks chasers arrived in that time, NONE!!!

oh and repeat sets of 6

remember them

they help because they reduce your defence load and increase your chance of scoring and reduce the amount of time the opposition has the ball in their hands

i may have to agree with millers.

i was never a kimmorley fan. i didnt like him when he wasnt a shark. i didnt like that he replaced campbell. i didnt like that he couldnt get vagana the ball. i didnt like him.

but he had direction.
and confidence.

i spoke to barrett before the game. he was about as up beat as a bloke who's dog had died, and he played accordingly.

still. its not really his falut. the key losses from last year are peek, degois and the fact we dont have ross, a fullback or fraser anderson who was coming along nicely.

ricky's made a few blunders IMO.

also. in light of lucky goldstar bailing when the going got tough...we should have picked bird in the semis.

Out of those six point which really equate to 2 kicking game and defence.

i would agree with the kicking game barrett probbaly has one of the worst kicking games of the halfbacks in the comp.

however defence i havent seen barrett miss to many 1 on 1 tackles at all compared to kimmorley.

i notice you didnt mention anything in your points about ball playing ability which barret does things gnome cant do look for example when barrett has played with good outside backs to give service to hasnt let N.S.W down once , Then you put a player of kimmorleys ability in there look what happens. I Think the ultimate insult to kimmorleys game came before city country with the blues selectors rather givent Barrett a run over Kimmorley.

i Know were going crap and need to look for a scapegoat but i dont think Barrett is the person we should be blaming.

Yes ricky has a few suspect decisions to answer for but the matuia decision isnt one i dont think we needed another back rower to cover bird he was best option.

That is a fair assumption, they do hang around with dragons fans and god knows what you'd pick up from them. About the only thing you wouldn't be in danger of getting would be an intelligent conversation.

To add further to your comments Millers, Kimmorley is the best in the business at dictating when & where the opposition gets the ball back most times.
What I find astounding is that some people make comments on a player based on wether they like or dislike a player, even though they may have never met him....It does though make for some pretty out of touch but highly entertaining reading.

yes shinatro i agree at the end of the day this is a forum were there is no real correct answer and as i stated in one of my first comments you were the only one on this forum who justified your decision in regards to not liking barrett which i respect . what i dont like is people making threads comments with no evidence reasoning backing up there statements.

I would add that Kimmorley does the best Bombs in league, while Barrett is hit and miss, and Clovell and Co does not have much speed and relied on the bombs to score

I'm big enough to say that in hindsight, it was a bad decision to let him go. And I was one of the members of the forum that was quite happy to see him go.

I can't really say whether we would be performing any better if he was still in the side though, as I believe the game has changed quite a bit from last season and I think we might still be struggling regardless.

One thing for sure, we really need to make some decisions on who we want to keep, let go and chase for next year, and plan accordingly.

OK, I'll play

Here's the game. We ignore who is the best trier, who has the biggest heart in the whole wide world, who is a nice bloke yada yada yada and we have a look at some numbers. In a spreadsheet no less. That's all you get. No names. Just bare, meaningless stats to upset the anti stats folk.

Here's stats for 10 random playmakers from the NRL this year

Your first job. Choose the playmaker you want based on these stats.
