Veteran winger John Hopoate has won a starting spot in the second row for Sunday's Brookvale Oval clash with the New Zealand Warriors.

Hopoate will start the match in the second row with Sam Harris to add some grunt up front against the massive Warriors pack.

Hoppa's promotion means a return to the centres for skipper Steve Menzies who will partner Albert Torrens.

Promising Paul Stephenson has been dropped to make way for the switch and the return of the club's outstanding prop or second rower Jason King.

King hasn't played this season and has made a good recovery from an off season shoulder operation.

His return is timely because he adds size and power up front against the yet to win but talented Warriors outfit.

The Manly Sea Eagles NRL side is:
Andrew Walker,Scott Donald,Albert Torrens,Steve Menzies (c),Chris Hicks,Jye Mullane,Michael Monaghan,Daniel Heckenberg,Chad Randall,Ian Donnelly,Sam Harris,John Hopoate,Luke Williamson.Replacements: Jason King,Kane Cleal,Anthony Watmough,Shane Dunley.

I agree Mr Angry......there have been pleny of us calling for him to go into the forwards including most of last season until he was injured....Sam Harris has been 1 of our best this season and if Hoppa can take some of the pressure of him I think Sam will rip 'em apart...Warriors are big so we need to match them!

sam who ?
U obviously don't know to much about football

Sam Harris was a centre for the warratahs, both the Roosters and the Sea Eagles tried to sign him for 03, With the Eagles getting him, he was one of the only highlights in the second half of Manlys year, when he was continually rated one of our best week in week out.
This year he has started the year on fire, being easily our best player. Now many rate him a bolter for rep teams

MEDIA RELEASE WEEKEND TEAMS
April 6,2004

JOHN HOPOATE IS OUT OF FOOTBALL FOR A MONTH AND WILL UNDERGO A RIGOROUS TRAINING SCHEDULE IN A BID TO REGAIN HIS STRENGTH AND SPEED FOLLOWING A SLOW RECOVERY FROM A BROKEN LEG.

HOPOATE HAD ONE TRIAL MATCH AND HAS HAD ONLY LIMITED TIME IN THE OPENING FOUR FOUR ROUNDS OF THE PREMIERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE SLOW RECOVERY.AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH COACH DES HASLER AND WITH CONSULTATION WITH THE CLUB DOCTOR,IT WAS AGREED THAT HOPOATE NEEDED TO DO SPECIFIC WORK ON HIS INJURED LEG TO HAVE HIM READY TO PLAY NRL.THE DECISION TO TRAIN AND NOT PLAY FOR A MONTH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MEDIA CRITICISM OF HOPOATE'S SIN BINNING BY REFEREE PAUL SIMPKINS LATE IN SUNDAY'S MATCH AGAINST THE NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS AT BROOKVALE OVAL.

HOPOATE BROKE HIS LEG IN A PREMIERSHIP MATCH AGAINST PARRAMATTA AT PARRAMATTA STADIUM LAST JULY AND HAS WORKED HARD IN THE OFF SEASON TO REGAIN FULL FITNESS.HIS WEIGHT IS THE LIGHTEST HE HAS BEEN FOR SEVERAL SEASONS BUT HIS SPEED HAS DECLINED AND THAT IS THE AREA WHICH WILL BE WORKED ON DURING THE NEXT MONTH.

Hopoate is a disgrace to Rugby League.

Naturally gifted player, but he's a terminal grub.

The sooner the Sea Eagles give him the arse, the better for all involved

I know.

It's a great shame they didn't name the Kangaroo Tour Thief so he could be ostracized. I heard he's a bit of a cheap shot merchant on the field as well...
