How Channel Nine should work Sunday.

Midday - The Sunday Roast
12:30 - The Sunday Footy Show
1:30 - Boots and all
2:00 - Live rugby league
4:00 - AFL Delayed

The only people disadvantaged here are foxtel as their live game would clash with the new 2:00pm live game.

Nine would actually receive a ratings boost - as people would settle in for a day of league from Midday, and their precious AFL would lead them into the 6:00pm news.

Nine would get more viewers on their league telecast as it's live, and the AFL telecast probably wouldn't lose ratings as people don't have the option in Sydney of switching on the radio and listening to the game instead.

Having the league broken up by the AFL at present just doesn't work.

It works for nine because they get a bunch of league viewers who watch the AFL thinking 'what the heck - I've gotta wait till the real footy comes on anyway'.

I'll guarantee that if they moved to your description, then the AFL ratings would drop substantially - people would finish with the league and switch to something else.

From a fans point of view I think it stinks - yet another reason why channel 9 shouldn't be allowed to regain the rights at any cost! Give them to someone (anyone) else who will show some respect for the game!!

I hate the delayed telecast for this reason..

Yesterday I knew Sharks had won with five minutes to go..becuase it was 5 mins to six.. they don't delay the news for extra time..

But, I dont want an AFL match at that time either...

BTW the game doesnt start till 3pm

I like that idea, I think they did that during the finals.

But as someone said before the NRL would have to move the game to 2.00.

I say forget AFL and shove it on at midnight.

Here is my suggestion.....

1.00 - Boots 'n' All
1.30 - The Sunday Roast
2.00 - Sunday Footy Show (now an hour and a half with a full preview and review of all games plus profiles of players. It would be hosted from out at whichever ground the Sunday game is at.)
3.30 - Sunday Football - LIVE
5.30ish - The Sunday Review (A new show wrapping up the round, again hosted from the same ground as the Sunday game).

----------------------------------------

Problem is that this would be very expensive to do in terms of the extra man hours required to have two extra shows coming from the ground and given the game would be live, Nine would also be losing much more money already.

I don't think the NRL want their players starting at 2pm though. The Swans move games to 2pm because they know it's the only way to get live coverage in Sydney.

I like that the current format allows you to watch the morning league shows then have time to get to your teams game in the afternoon.

In the past they have delayed the news and the annoucement that it was going to be delayed due to extra time until the initial 80 mins is up.

It doesn't happen often because it's rare that a game goes into golden point and then even rarer that it is the one game on Sunday that they decide to show.

Generally they suck but they have got the golden point/extra time periods sorted out.

No way, The Sunday Footy Show and Roast should stay on in the mornings, otherwise people going to the games would miss them.

Only problem is the afl goes for 3 hours, not 2. Would be too hard to work at this stage. The delayed coverage sucks but what they have got is probably the best they can do under the circumstances at the moment.

OK, I didn't know that...

I had a false sense of security then, yesterday

Channel 9's so called coverage of League is a deadset disgrace, NO League at all on Saturday, You even have the Club Rugby live at 3pm on the ABC, Two AFL Games, NO LEAGUE, I can't afford Foxtel, So how is about a game on at 7:30pm? is it so hard?

I really hope the rights go to Channel Seven, I know Bruce Mac would do a good job over there.

How about this... AFL piss off to 10 and 7. 7 puts in a big bid for league which keeps nine honest and pay what it's worth. Then...

Friday:
7:30pm LIVE game (eg: in Sydney --> Brisbane vs Bulldogs from Suncorp)
9:30pm Delayed game (eg: in Sydney --> Roosters vs Tigers from Aussie)
The broadcast times can be switched so that a game isn't shown live in the city of origin. Two games in 2 different parts of the country. There'd always be one scheduled in Sydney, one somewhere else... eg Newcastle, Brisbane, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne... and perhaps get the pick of the 2 shown at 9:30 in Adelaide and Perth?

Saturday:
could be same as Friday with 2 matches both played at 7:30, one live, one delayed (not live into the city of origin).
OR
it would be good to have one day game and one night game... maybe
3pm LIVE (4pm in city of origin)
7:30 LIVE (8:30 in city of origin)

Sunday:
12pm Boots 'N All
12:30pm The Sunday Roast
1:00pm The Footy Show (Live from match day venue)
2:00pm Sunday Football LIVE
4:00pm Delayed match

With a 16 team comp, that means 6 out of 8 games would be on FTA... it's nice to dream.

Now a more sensible proposal...

Still do the 2 Friday Night games thing...
1 Saturday game delayed at 4pm
1 Sunday game delayed at 4pm

That gives FTA 4 games with at least one on each day, and leaves pay with 4 (a reduction of only one).

Channel Nine didn't worrk about squeezing 80 minutes of football into 45 minutes a few years back.

See how those Mexicans like it!!
