How do send offs/sin-bins work?

One of my favourite features of ET RL was to get players sin binned. If i was a bit short in the defensive line and i knew they were about to score then id just get an offside player to tackle someone without the ball  But sometimes an advantage was played, which was simply awesome.

So my question is, what offenses would result in a player getting sent-off or sin binned in a game? What differentiates between them?

Cheers,

What would be a good idea for sin binnings is, if you can hold players down in the tackle, putting in professional fouls if you hold down players too long close to the line, or after making a big break, or even making a tackle from an offside position where they would have scored otherwise.

and especially when the player waves his hands at you

Sin binning and penalities would be cool as long as they make sense and are consistent. sending people in the bin in the first minute of the game for holding down would really suck
