How is Browny going now?

Nathan Brown, much maligned for being unable to deliver Saints a premiership many years ago seems to have improved the Newcastle roster to the point where the cellar dwellers are now in the top 4.

Does he have a better squad than Saints?

I would argue that overall, the answer is no.

Sure he has Ponga, Pierce, Glasby and Klemmer.

But along with those guys he has a lot of bog average squad members too.

We now find ourselves in the bottom 4 should we lose today.

Browny has served his apprenticeship overseas and put in a lot of hard work to improve Newcastle. He now has a wealth of experience.

I am hoping our team rebounds from the poor form of the last few weeks.

Yes the team has injuries and JDB has been stood down.

But we have the team Mary says he always needed/wanted.

Memo to Board:

Sack this imposter.

The Club and fans deserve better.

Browny is an old boy but FFS he knows how to develop juniors. No point having a rich nursery unless we know how to develop our juniors.

Bring back Brown.

Talk about going off early.
Last year at this time Dragons were on top of the comp. Imagine if someone started a thread hows mary going now!
5 weeks ago Brown was about to be fired. Yes he's bounced back through Pearce and Ponga but I wouldn't be surprised if the knights miss the top 8 all together.
Ponga is single handedly winning them games, literally scoring most of their points himself. He is a freak.
Lets come back to this thread after Origin Series is finished and see where Knights are placed.

I don't care how he's going, all I know is he is a far better coach than what we have. Brownie doesn't beat around the bush & says it like it is, even accepting blame for the failed Ponga 5/8 experiment. Our bloke believes blame is a football & you pass or kick it to another to get hammered.

He is far superior to McGregor.
Saints we’re constantly in the 8 when he was coach, yes no premiership, but he got very close.
The fool at the moment is now the longest serving coach and he has made the finals twice in 5 years, and if he stuffs up this year, twice in 6. Yet he has been re-signed 3 times.

Brownie has a win percentage of 25% with the knights.

For the past 3 seasons the knights fans have had to endure terrible results.

This season I predicted knights to be right up there; because of the roster. Yes, add Klemmer Glasby Raimen , Edrick Lee who I always liked big and can return, even Toutai Moga in 2nds at moment coming back after ACL. Knights have had a couple of those tough power backrowers since last year ( they are not bog average). The cherry on top is Ponga who is especially exceptional. Pierce always a quality half.

If they all stay healthy ( of course Ponga must stay healthy! ) then they will give comp a shake.

Good players make good coaches as I always bang on about. Yes and Brownie is a good coach. You need the cattle as the saying goes. For us, the JDB isn’t helping and Gareth and Norman big losses. Zac the gifted one has not set the world on fire, let’s be frank he is currently bog average ATM. Many celebrating Lawrie extension and he could be ‘anything’. Really not hold your breadth.

Knights have bolstered their roster by adding a host of proven first graders and/or Origin players. To me they are far more balanced than the Dragons. The Dragons recruitment has been appalling and reflects their position on the table.

IMO Newcastles poor start is a failure on the part of their coaching and it’s only now after their current wins they are showing the true form true reflective of their roster

ie quality recruitment = quality roster

They have an Elite fullback. Two big strong meter eater wingers, quality centres (plus depth ie Moga) a number of options at 6 (Mann playing really well ) - the other rosters recruit who plays versatile role
The form halfback (voiced by multiple notable judges)

Their 4 high quality props are equal to any others in the comp, depth and attacking flair at hooker, Levi/Mann, with the rest of the forwards up there also.

Love Browny but just about every club has had a month of glory. Let's see if the Knights are still doing this come finals time.

They displayed amazing attitude against the Roosters. How long can they sustain that? Our attitude was completely lacklustre and flat and they really should have put a century on that ghost of a Dragons team that turned up to Mudgee.

Happy to see Nathan and the Knights do really well but I am not convinced yet that its anything more than a purple patch.

Browny laid the platform for Bennett's success at the Dragons, just like Madge has done the same for Siebold and now Bennett. One thing I loved about Browny it was not always the same thing. He actually looks at the opposition and targets their weakness. Unlike Mary, he just does the same thing over and over again, does not make many changes on selection and during game time with his bench and hopes for the best. I rate him as one of the best and with a good roster will make finals.

Saints missed the GF with Browny because Baz was penalised for apparently running after being called held and not playing the ball, something we see now all the time with no penalty. If Saints win that they would have beaten the Cowboys but instead the Tigers did.

When Brownie played for the Dragons, he was one of my favourite players at the time. When he became our head coach, I always wished him well and thought it was only a matter of time before he would win a GF as coach.

Then came Bennett and I realised that Nathan was yet to learn a thing or two and so did not regret his move to ESL. And yes this move was the making of Brown as a coach.

Now he is showing his maturity and skills as a coach that will see him to be one of the best in years to come. Yes I wish he was coaching our players right now and condemn the SGI Board for not reaching out to him when he returned from the ESL.

I like Brown as a coach the problem with us was,

-He was to inexperienced only coached 1 year of Jersey Flegg and then was given the top job.
--He was still one of the boys played with the likes of Barrett, Hornby, Gasnier, Thompson (R.I.P), Ryles, Bailey amongst others.
---Was good friends with Peter Doust, who was also ...ahh let's not re-hash that.
----Was far to young not even 30 yet I believe when he started coaching us.

I would glady take him back but Newcastle would be foolish to rid of their best coach in years, he has improved greatly and now has that extra and outside the club experience. He is still one of the best judges of talent IMO and what he did with Newcastle who were and absolute mess when he got there is nothing short of amazing, He still has a few ''Brownisms' though I have noticed:

-His team continues to start slow 1 win and 4 losses in the opening 5 games is not uncommon ground for him it always happened to us when he was in charge.
--Still has an obsession for putting flashy players at 5/8 remember when he did it with Gasnier?
