How much did 97 cost us?

No I have reminded everyone about 1997 in that poll, I have the next question to ask: How much did that 1 try cost us. How much did ALbert crossing the white strip set us back. Lets say Albert hadn't scored, and we won in extra time, where would we be now.

Would this season be onee of trying to climb back to the top after 7 or so years at the bottom. Or had we won that match would we have still been dominent in 1998 and so forth.

Would we have spent 3 seasons as the Northern Eagles, or would that terrible peiod never have happened due to the fact of the money we would have gained from that match. So what did that try do to us, in your opinion?

in 98 we lost gillespie and Carroll, we had no props and that set us on a downward spiral. Remember Adam Peters and Anthony Collela packing in!

We lost Craig Innes who at the time of his departure was the best centre in the game!

We spent all out cash on retaining players and bringing them accross. We wasted cash on players like Craig feild.

Super league killed us, not losing the 97 premiership. The biggest f**k up though was our choices in terms of the merger and who we retained and who we didnt. Maybe Sharp is the blame here but i seem the remember that we did not have the advantage of no cap, like Illawarra/Dragons.

This would have been a gret Northern Eagles outfit to kick things off.

1. Cleary
2. Hoparate
3. Hill
4. Buettener
5. Phillips
6. Toovey
7. Taylor
8. Carroll
9. Sedaris
10. Larson
11. Menzies
12. Gartner
13. Kosef
14. Moore
15. Farilegh
16. Collela
17. Sears

Would have won the comp i think!

Super league killed Manly in the late 90's not the GF

In regards to which players we kept from the merger, 4 or 5 other teams in the comp protested about our possible playing strength as being unfair, so the players were devided into 2 pools excellent and brilliant.

The NE J/V was only allowed to retain 1/2 of the Brilliant players and half of the excellent, something like that anyway.

The facts are, our hands were pretty much tied in regards to the make-up of the J/V Side.

Taking the Manly glasses off..

Newcastle was the best result for the game. Had the ARL flagteam won yet again, like predicted it wouldn't have restored faith in the game.

Having said that it hurts like f**king hell whenever I see any footage or pics.

Yeah it was definatly best that those drug cheats won.

Inspired the dogs to not give a f*ck about the cap a few years back.

What CC Eagle Said.

Newcastle had to win that GF. Considering how poorly the ARL negotiated at the end of the war, can you imagine how they would have faired without the great Morale boost of that Grand Final?

That Said, we faired better than alot of Clubs. Illawarra and The Magpies are practically dead and Norths, who were one of the financial clubs before the war broke out, are searching for 5 cent pieces in Millers Streets Gutters...
