Eels and Panthers should merge.

As an Eels fan I could live with a relocation but not a merge.
I bet the Tigers if they had their time again would rather relocate. Mergers are horrid.

De merge the Tigers and the Magpies.
Relocate the Tigers to Perth call them Western Tigers (but 4 home games at Liechhart plus several guaranteed ANZ away games - Dogs, Eels, Rabbits).
I would relocate the Magpies as well but I have no idea where.

The biggest thing stopping expansion is that no matter how you do it its going to cost a bit of money and the current NRL clubs want all the money for themselves the greedy, selfish, dumb bastards.

I am pretty sure that is the case for the AFL but not so much the NRL. Nine don't have any interest in it (with their half arsed effort). And Fox doesn't think a ninth game adds subscribers. At least thats what I recall reading several years ago. I'd be delighted to be wrong.
It could be different now with all the advertisement during sport on Fox.

No I'm mean what if AFL states had went to RL instead of wasting there time with a sport that is very popular but has no significance outside Australia.

It took 27 posts for someone to mention the Northern Territory....amazing!

TBH, PNG and NT/Darwin would be good as a "merged" team due to geographical considerations.

PNG have had some good players in the past so things shouldn't be any different now.

The quality of Darwin rugby league is unknown to me. I just know that the Eels played someone a few years ago in Darwin.

Same old problems, cant survive on crowds of sub 10k in Darwin and lack of big corporate support. PNG is a massive unknown in terms of financial sustainability but would be fraught with other challenges. Maybe a club based in Darwin but playing 75% of games in PNG to attract govt support might work. Membership would be huge if kept at $10 a go!

I was thinking Sydney City would've covered all the city/regional areas like Sydney city in the NRC.
