Johns said a leadership group involving V'landys and Gould could return rugby league administration to the glory days of Ken Arthurson and John Quayle "when the game was flying".

While previously calling for the NRL to be culled to 12 teams...

Arthurson and Quayle had the vision to make rugby league a truly national sport with teams in Perth and Adelaide and a second Brisbane team.

Whether or not it is a realistic possibility is another thing, but either way Johns said Greenberg's time as CEO was up.

Re Greenberg, alongside Vlandys he looks like the tea lady. With Vlandys clearly now running the joint, the position occupied by Greenberg is not needed. A saving of several hundred k per year.

Australian RL has this weird messiah culture....

Rather than trying to change the system, the game or whatever other isues they see, RL people (players, clubs workers, media, etc) just pick a messiah who will come in and fix everything.

Then, when obviously they cant fix everything (because these commentators are willing to complain, not actually do anything positive) and the expectations were too high to begin with, these RL people turn on them and pick a new messiah who will come in and fix everything.

And again, and again, and again........................................

A lot of people forget that Arko and Qualye were planning to cut teams too (their number was 14)...

The only difference between what they were planning and what actually happened between 1995-2000 was that it cost a whole lot more to get there and there was no one managing which teams were culled.

But the fact is, cutting or merging half a dozen teams was inevitable even without SL...

They will certainly betray their principles to follow their master's bidding.
A prime example was the ref's crackdown a couple of years ago. After years of complaining that the wrestle was the biggest blight on the game and that deliberate cheating (e.g. being deliberately offside) was rife, both started attacking the refs and the League for the penalty count just as it was obvious the strategy was working. Obviously driven by Nein and the simplistic policy that too many penalties is bad for the game.
