How to get a foothold in London

It seems to still be high on the agenda of the RFL, despite the fall of the London Broncos. They are saying they want to take SL matches down to London at least once a season:

I think this is NOT the answer. I think they should keep on going as they are, with a strong junior scene, then hopefully, the likes of the Skolars can some day turn pro, and some of the current ameteur clubs, hopefully turn semi-pro.

the game in london now has to go through the same process welsh rugby league went through after the demise of the crusaders as a ESL team..

welsh RL has/will benefit far more by having 2 teams full of welshmen and its a development pathway for the welsh juniors...

likewise london still have 2 teams in the system...broncos & skolars, london RL still has its junior leagues and the broncos produced some exciting talent... tony clubb, dan sarginson, kieron dixon, omari caro ,mason caton-brown, LMS etc....

SUPER LEAGUE isn't the be all and end all......the broncos should make the top 4 of the championship this upcoming season....so they've not fallen that far

as for that article...........id look at playing magic at the new olympic stadium instead of taking the odd game to london

RL will never have a 'foothold' in London (or anywhere else for that matter) as long as the sport has such a poor mainstream image. In fact I'd say that in the last few years American Football, which is pretty much a less exciting version of RL, has massively overtaken RL in nationwide popularity and especially in London just because the sport presents itself in a way that is fresh, exciting and relevant, whereas RL is still viewed as RU's lesser cousin that is mostly watched by groups of depressed older men in Northern mining towns. Which sadly is pretty much accurate.

When I say 'foothold', I mean to have built a steady, long-term following, similar to what Catalans Dragons have for example. 6-7000 for most matches, slightly higher for the big clashes. I believe it's realistic and should have been achieved already by now.

I agree with Spud's comparison to Welsh RL too, this is a great way to go.
