Hunslet-Castleford Match Summary

Quite a short one this week

Hunslet Hawks 6 Castleford Tigers 34

Attendance: 1,432

Highlights:
-A wins a win, and coupled with Featherstone's draw at York, that put's us through to the next round.
-Good to see the juniors coming through. If I've read correctly, 8 of the 17 players who played have come up through the academy.

Lowlights:
-We seemed to want to score a try off every set. Too many handling errors as well.
-Our discipline was good, up until near the end when Adam Watene was sin binned, followed by Jon Hepworth. Teams will be out to wind us up, it's up to the players to ignore it and get on with the game.

BOOM of the match:Not really a boom (I can't remember many big tackles), but Michael Shenton stole the ball a good 2 or 3 times.

Referee Rating:Ben Thaler 7. A lot of penalties were given to us for offside, but Mr Thaler should have sin binned players long before Adam Watene and Jon Hepworth were binned. There were far too many high tackles (from both teams).

How many Cas Fans? 800-950

How were the Cas Fans?Noisiest we've been all season.

Comedy Moment:Can't think of one.

My MOTM:Shenton finished well and his defence was excellent, Frank Watene ran the ball up well, but my MOTM goes to Andrew Henderson. Led from the front, excellent tackling, charged down a Hunslet kick to allow Andy Kain an easy try on 38 seconds, and he took his try well.

In a nutshell:Today was a poor performance, and even though we won we will have to improve significantly if we want to get to the final (I've heard it's to be held at Blackpool-is this true?). Being honest, Michael Platt was poor until he went off with an injury, and too many players made simple errors.
I agree with dave Woods in the best thing to come out of todays game was six players from last years academy team, and two 17 year olds made their debut.
Hull Dockers in the challenge cup this Sunday, a game in which we should rack up a few points. I'd like to see some more of our academy players given a chance.

Cas clears its first hurdle, in getting through to the next round of this cup. Would've been some real problems if that didn't happen... ;-) Now for the challenge cup, and the quest for promotion in the league, eh Hightown?

York hit their first barrier, in not following up last year's performances and form against Fev, only escaping with yesterday's draw at the death from two games. But it's early days, and the Knights might still be a chance at a step up to next year's NL1?

Challenge cup? Haha, no chance.
The signs so far are promising, but we haven't really been tested by one of the serious promotion contendors e.g. Hull KR, Whitehaven.

Weere you unlucky against Fev? Am hoping to make a day of the York-Castleford match, get the train in early from Leeds and Bob's your Uncle 8)

York were actually lucky to snatch the late draw against Fev, who had the better of the first 70 or so minutes. Too little too late, though the willingness of the players to not say die and the form of Scott Rhodes from the bench in his return match were pleasing.

Though I'm sure they'll want to make amends against Cas for the margin of the last outing. Ticket only match, not sure how or how many have been sent through to Cas? Picking up mine tomorrow night as I'll be away on the weekend/next week.

No news on tickets over here. I think with the late distribution/selling of tickets, coupled with the fact we are already through, may mean Cas will probably take 1000max.

I'll be there though 8)

I think the tickets are just a measure to keep count in case masses of people come to the turnstyles on the day, should be right though.

If you're on the early train you get time to stop in town for drinks and food in a pub - there's nothing much out near the ground. Free buses to the ground leave from various spots around the centre of York (including the station) at 2pm :D

Any pubs you can recommend? Not been to York lately.

Apparently, there are few parking spaces near the ground, so getting the train/ free bus sounds like a good idea :)

Heaps of pubs! But don't want to send you too far out of the way/away from the station/bus stop - with parking restrictions the free bus should be the most painless way to get there.

Try the following pub map - station on the left, the way to the ground is to the north (far off the map).

Number 23 the Maltings is pretty close to the station, and has a good range of ales, but is a bit small and doesn't do food. If you're in time for a feed, I'd go to number 1 the Ackhorne, good ales and burgers, tucked away down a side street. Also 19, 47 and 55 near the minster are all maybe within range as well, but my usual favourites are probably too far to the east of where you'll need to be?

* HT, I'm offline for the rest of the week now, but I'll wear my Parramatta Eels jersey to the game, so come up and say hi if you spot me in the crowd ;-) *
