Hybrid Game?

I don't want my little fling at KRL to take away from discussion here. So I'm pasting the only post from KRL so far that's on a topic other than the site itself. It's from Mr. Angry of TFS in response to a thread I started called League vs. Union:

<table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width="100%" border=1> <tbody> <tr class=ThmBgAlternate> <td nowrap align=middle background=http://sc.communities.msn.com/themes/pby/img/mb/reply_bg.gif><a target=_top>Reply</a>

As the players get bigger, stronger and faster 13 and 15 men on one team fill the field to much. I like both, league is my game now.
</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
(I hope he doesn't mind this) My question is : I have heard criticisms of the hybrid games and/or cross-code games that have been tried before. Is there a hybrid game that would work as a way to pit the 2 codes against each other? Any ideas?

Rugby League is defined by the play the ball and Union by the Ruck and Maul. All other aspects of the two games are interchangeable.

The closest hybrid rule I could come up with would be unlimited tackles, play the balls and a much shorteroffside line. Basically what Rugby league was 40 years ago.

Who would have the edge in such a game, Saint? Would union forwards still be able to play effectively?

I think their would be a place for most Union forwards provided they could get quick play the balls. Runs from Dummy Half inside the oppositions 20 is where I'd guess a Union forward would makethe mostimpact. Defenseand hit upswould favour League players.Depending on how close the defensive line was put back (which is 10 metres in League and 0 metres in Union), this would determine the advantage given to forwards from either game.

I don't think the game would be very exciting and I could see a return to a 6 tackle rule adopted soon after conception of such a game.
