Oh oh.
I don't like the sound of this too much.

Would the government spend this much money on investigations if there was nothing to hide?
Everyone knows there are all sorts of rules businesses and individuals use to reduce tax (some more than others) but maybe some of the clubs have pushed the envelope too far.

I just think it's funny that Sharks Leagues gets classed as a "mega-club"!!

Sharkies isn't anywhere near being in the same class as Panthers, Parra Leagues and the Bulldogs Club. NOWHERE NEAR IT!!

Not sure what they are hoping to find anyway.

Looks like it's a general inquiry into the industry, not a specific investigation of Sharks.

But Mr Carr and Mr Egan believe they have the high moral ground and that the voting public will support a crackdown on cronyism, nepotism and dubious accounting practices in some parts of club land.

Cronyism and nepotism are rife at the Sharks, it's jobs for the boys as we well know. I dont think we have anything to worry about in regards to dodgy accounting but this could actually have good consequences for our club.

Good idea. If Egan spends a bit of time around the clubs, he might find out first hand how badly his new tax is going to f*ck them in the ass...

My legal counsel has advised me to point out that my comment is a metaphor...

If there is problems in the clubs then I welcome this enquiry. But after the business of the increased Tax all the critacism it has envoked, this does strike me as a bit of a get square from the State government.

I can't believe the difference between our government and that in Melbourne. Down there they have a minister for the AFL and are planning on giving all the clubs half a million bucks in compensation for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Up here, Bob Carr and Michael Egan seem to be doing all they can to get at Rugby League.

I think this may be the downfall of them.

I think this may be the downfall of them.

Unfortunately I think they can get away with whatever they want

If they got voted back in last year with the 4 main pillars of state governance in varying degrees of crisis: policing, education, hospitals and transport, they'll never get voted out.

:(
