I'd Prefer To Have Won

But I'm not overly disappointed in the loss.

Going into the match I was worried their forwards would run all over the top of us, but our guys really worked hard as a pack, much like against Brisbane, and the Dog's main men like Willie, O'Meley and Ryan were kept fairly well shut down.

And we did this virtually playing with 16 men, having Aitken only come on for the last 13 minutes.

What cost us was lack of direction at a crucial stage, an absolute butchered try, and some very soft defence. What was that about Jason Kent??

I think that match bodes well for the coming weeks. I'm a lot more confident than I was going into this weekend.

There wasn't too much Reick or Simmo did, defensively, which cost us.
It was guys making poor defensive lapses inside them which put them in no-win positions.

Vagana missed far too many, for one.

That game could come back to haunt us. It was a golden opportunity to place us in a perfect position to make the semis and it was there for the taking. We just played dumb football when we needed to stand up and take the game.
Id be a bit frustrated about the result if i was Raper.

You're right there.
But I think it shows we have what it takes to spring an upset or two over the next month.
If we do, hopefully it'll all even out in the wash

Put it this way, with Kimmorley and Peachey playing today i think we would have won comfortably.. When we got to 26 all, we lost direction and our kicking game was poor, thats where Kimmorley and Peachey play a major role in our side..
Saying that i still think we should have won and im still dissapointed..

Call it loss of direction, I thought that ultimately it was a lack of finese in attack. The Bailey bombed try and the Michael O'Sullivan dropped ball over the line. Maybe Kimmorely would have made some difference. But the big plus was the forwards playing well and holding their own against the Bulldogs forwards. If the team plays this well nexy week, they'll beat St George for sure.

Don't forget though, we scored on the set of 6 immediately after the 'No Try' ruling, so it wasn't like we lost any ground in having that one disallowed.

Simmons??? I think Simmons had a great game today. The bulldogs kicked at him all day, and he always seemed safe as houses.

In conditions like today, I would have expected a young fullback to spill heaps.

Simmons is handling the step up better and better each week. He didnt let us down today.

Here here, Harry!

Simmo took several bombs VERY well, looked as safe as you like.

And in those conditions? No small feat that, I'll tell you.

OK, his defence needs work. But hell, even Peach has been known to go missing in defence in recent years...Remember that Raiders try?

Just as Simmons took a dangerous looking bomb midway through the second half, I couldnt help but think that Peachey must be looking on from the sidelines thinking that this makes it tougher and tougher to get back on next year.

Im not saying that we shouldnt sign Peach, But I am saying that I think Simmons is going to be Ok.

I dont think anyone's picking on his hands I think he has some of the best in the club its just he was part of, I think, some of the most woeful backline defence I've seen all year.
Anyone else noticed that the draw and pass close to the line results in the opposition scoring 9/10 times, and I think if you look back at our games this year about 9/10 tries are scored against us out wide.
What I'd try, would be putting someone like gallen and maybe isemonger in the centres in defence and and bringing the centres in close to the great defenders like hilder and bickers.
