I know none of them personally.
All I know is that the most important signing, for maybe forever, is Fitz as coach. Us supporters just have this natural feeling that he IS the team. And by what I can tell, the players feel that too.
Fitz was a ballboy for us when his dad was the coach.

A lot of people do not like Sticky, and by what I've been told, he was a real ratbag when the Raiders were winning their comps.
I an only say about my time with him, and he was great with me. Even after games there'd be a cordoned off are for the players in the Leagues Club, but I was allowed everytime. I used to pay out Flanno all the time, Stick loved it. Fkanno, when he was coach, gave me some pretty good scoops, especially after a few beers.
To this day some of the players and I will always have a beer and great time. Namely, Luke Covell.. he's the No.1.. Ben Ross, Ben Pommeroy... others Isaac deGois, Craig Stapleton. All top fellas. Oh and Kevvie Kingston if i see him.
I did call Greg Bird a cocksmoker one night, he didn't get my humour.
My two favourite sharks were Preston and peachy

what they did in 99 was amazing

I remember the game at shark park when Andrew johns was at the peak of his powers and Cronulla were all over the top of them and Joey put a cheap shot on dykes I think out of frustration

It wouldn’t surprise me about the ratbag thing. One town team with big name players is always a recipe for that type of stuff to go on. All I remember was that he was a ridiculously good player. Him and Loz and Bradley Clyde etc. Such great memories for me as a kid and a Raiders supporter. Haven’t had anything since.

Yeah your team really surprised me last year. Hynes as a halfback was a massive surprise. Interesting to see how they go this year.
He’s a star halfback they are always like that

Joey would run amock in Newcastle

And to add onto that story.
The first two months I was basically there by myself doing the real hard yards, trenching.
I was in the middle of the main trench, outside the then gym, in boiling heat, obviously feeling it, I was 39 at the time.
A young 27 year old called Gallen walked over and these were the only words he ever said to me " so this is what you do eh.. I did that once and I'll never do it again" and walked off.
My thoughts "you f**kibg wanker"
I never forgave him until he held that trophy up.
I was at a club in the cross

ran into Gallen what a legend

I was geeing him up saying he took a dive against the dragons that won cronulla the game via a penalty and the next time he tried it look for me in the grandstand id be giving him the finger

he tried to push his really hot ex gf onto me but she wasn’t interested

The Peach is my alltime second fave, Steve Rogers will always be number 1.
The Apricot I also loved, and I hate Chris Anderson because of it.
Preston was playing reserves that year at Henson, and I think he got embarrassed by my love for him.

Yep I was in the grandstand shouting Anderson sucks

that’s when I got the season tickets and he ruined it with Kimmorley

that’s why I went to Penrith I followed Preston around and was so happy when he and Johnny lang won the comp with Penrith whilst Anderson and kimmorley got sacked

Anderson was sacked. Kimmorley stayed on until Sticky came on board, and those two already had history from SOO. Twas never gunna work out.
And I too loved the Langy, Preston, Martin Lang, Craig Greenhill.... and there was another one, a Centre? Time at Penrith. I was stoked for them.

Is it possible for someone to be this stupid?

The ARL was getting just $10m per year from Packer between 1993 and 2000. They were stone motherless broke by the end of 1997 and needed Murdoch's money in 1998, hence the reason they gave him a 50% stake in the game.

Only a complete nutjob would think the ARL were in a position to fund all of its teams and add new ones in Brisbane, Townsville, Australia and Canberra. They sure didn't have the money to fund new teams in 1988 and 1995. By 1998 the ARL exhausted its funds on pointless legal action that backfired.
Felt a bit sorry for you that nobody’s responded to your posts old mate so I will. POTATO!

Great, tell everything reds will boast today that force didn't when they got dumped in 2019 (except rugby has richer backer & more registered player)?!
Good trolling.
An $18million grant, a supportive wa govt, a rich consortium ownership, a governing body not looking to cut them. Dope.

Tony Sage - Glory Owner - has for years complained about the losses his team makes. Sage says losses have soared to $40 million since he became a club owner in 2007 and sole owner two years later.

The Wildcats struggled until around 2015 when they delivered a million dollar profit.

The Force were esentially bankrupt until Andrew Forrest came on to the scene.

West Coast went broke before 1991 and had to be bailed out early on, but rapidly developed into a power house after that.

Do you think an NRL team would have perservered?
Are all those clubs still in their top tier competitions? Yep? Thought so.

Would the NRL or another owner be prepared to lose millions for years on a club without merging or relocating? I dont think they/the other clubs have the patience needed for a club like that.

The NRL doesnt operate like the AFL. And whether theres another private owner willing to sacrifice millions annually to support a team in Perth is another question. The clubs and the QRL/NSWRL wont want to.

Really? how many times have the gold coast gone broke? The NRL have bankrolled Wests, Cronulla, saints and newcastle over the years, warriors had to find new owners.

False. The NRL have never bankrolled Cronulla.
The other four teams, New, St.G/Ill, GC and Wests, yes they have.

those are existing clubs

they wouldn’t admit a basket case from the start

we all know what happened to Perth last time they were admitted with poor finances

Completely different scenarios in any case

The chances of any club having to be bailed out now (unless you are talking about PNG for example) is very remote. They get $5 million more than the salary cap for one.

That applies to any location now

Perth won’t get In with a weak business plan that’s for sure especially given their past and what happened to the force

Not good on history are we? What happened to the Force had nothing to do with poor governance or location. It had all to do with the ARU’s incompetence. That’s a known fact. Just like others here, your views are so Sydney centric you fear growth and risk. The ARU had 5 clubs they could have culled. They chose Perth for the same reason. Cowardice and retreating back into old markets which have been under savage attack by the AFL.
The Reds were sacrificed in the same manner for the same reasons. Fear of growth and expansion and placating the Sydney Clubs.
It’s 2023 not 1998. The game can either grow new markets and expand its base or it can hide in Sydney and Brisbane and slowly die.
The lengths some of you go to write off Perth is part of the culture the game needs to discard. Ive watched this for decades with a mixture of amusement and slight despair.

Sure I’m good at history

wa reds had a good start and their crowds collapsed

force had excellent crowds and they collapsed

if you don’t learn from the lessons of history you repeat the same mistakes over and over

a comp based in nsw qld the act and nz would be fine with me (token team in melb)

Don’t lecture me about history mate. You’re so anti Perth you are starting to repeat and believe your own crap. A token team in Melbourne? That sums up just how narrow your vision is. By the way it’s 2023. The lesson of history is to learn about how to do things better. Not hide like a coward because things didn’t go right first time. You and your Sydney mates are a pack of gutless cowards imho.
