I live in an afl state.
And I’ve managed a comp in that environment.
As for the rest of your post. Standard negative drivel from a bloke who doesn’t believe in his own sport.

He doesn’t seem to have a problem hyping up fumbleball. He thinks fumbleball is an exciting sport (good on him I don’t) because once he had exposure to the product he took the time to consume the product and made the decision to either like it or not. That’s pretty much like everyone I would think.

Ergo, his argument is either RL is a s*** product that nobody else will watch or that people will just refuse to watch something even if they have had no exposure to it. I don’t really get either of those arguments.

You really underestimate the AFL .
That is an exciting sport with extremely passionate fans! You you might get 1 in a hundred to come over to league. A Perth team will be relying on the expat community and only the ones from Brisbane , Sydney and 1 expat from the North of England...
Union have anyone who went to University and maybe we could pull some of those 🤷‍♂️
Fact is Rugby League will only ever be a very small niche sport in the most isolated city in the world.
A massive drain financially, a massive drain on our talent pool and massive drain on the energy of every individual that will have to make the journey or relocate there.

A lot doesn't stact up. That's just a fact.
No, that's just your opinion. No facts at all. Fact

Pretty much sums it up. I defer to you.

It might be true that people can follow more than 1 sport. I don't mind AFL but I much prefer League.
League has 8 games every week..
I never get to watch them all, so there's no chance I'm squeezing in a game of AFL.
That's the same for AFL fans which is 95% of west Australians. While they might appreciate League and might even attend some games if they got a brand new shiny teams but after the shine where's off the most they'll manage is checking the results.
It will hardly register a blip on ratings and crowds will dwindle. All at a very expensive cost to every other club in the NRL.
The crowd bar is set very low in the nrl lol. There’s no reason to suggest a well run perth club won’t at least make that avg, and liKelly surpass it. I think you underestimate how many league area people have moved to perth in the last twenty years.

Thanks mate. Sometimes I talk sense. It is a strange argument to make.

The game can afford to go anywhere in Australia and New Zealand where there is a decent enough population.
Just because it CAN be done doesn’t mean it SHOULD be done

It’s more like one percent of the population if you are looking at successful expansion sides like the swans

maybe 2 percent being generous
2% is fine, that’s over 50k active fans for the new club in wa which will still be more than most nrl clubs. 17k attending, 25-30k members. Bingo.

I think every single Rugby league fan is happy that the Storm were a success and would be happy if a Perth team were.
But the fact is that a Perth team have already been abandoned and the Western force were cut in 2017 sighting financial reasons.
Weather or not you or Perthy want to admit it, Perth is a major risk.
We can't guarantee thier success at all!
Melbourne is a very cool international world class city a short flight from Sydney and Brisbane. Attracting talent isn't hard.
Attracting players to Perth... a major concern! And if they're not successful on the pitch, they will be a disaster in ratings, a disaster in attendance and a financial disaster.

Major risk.

2017 twiggy was offering to bankroll them and give the ARU $50million to fund jnr ru. Force weren’t cut due to financial problems lol.

haha you can’t guarantee anyones success! You look at the busines case and decide how much risk is acceptable for the potential reward. That’s how business works!

“Attracting players to Perth... a major concern!” One thing we agree on! But the answer isnt to walk away from the opportunity, it’s find ways to mitigate the risk.

Sure but I am not arguing for another Sydney side or a CC side or another small market. A city of over 2 million people in a country with a small population like Australia should have representation just on the back of the commercial opportunities it provides.

It’s ok

living in Sydney I can attend multiple games a week which I used to do

it’s amazing living in a city which is immersed in rugby league
You used to do? Given up going like most Sydney fans hey?
I left that shithole 20 years ago so good luck making me feel jealous of you living there.

Your better than to jump to ludicrous conclusions. The AFL is an exciting sport. I prefer the strength , power and arm wrestle that Rugby League provides, there's more tension and more intense collisions. I enjoy it more.
I can appreciate AFL though and the people who follow that and understand that find it hard to appreciate League.

I'll keep providing the facts and you lot can keep playing the man and jumping at shadows. I can do this all day long but I'm just leaving the hotel to go an enjoy some NY nightlife. Peace ✌
