Cunningham and Long have been excluded due to thier International retirement. To me we dont look too bad for depth as thier are players like Bailey, McGuire, Robinson, Briscoe, Dowes, Carvell, Cooke, Atkins, Crabtree... (you get the gist) that have missed out. It surprised me when it was written out in front of me.

You'd pretty much have all the crop of GB/England players at your disposal for a Counties origin match, minus one or two anomolies - I think maybe Ade Gardner is technically from Cumbria, so you'd have to have a ruling on cases like that and eventually London-raised players, as well as people who are eligible and seek to represent Wales or Scotland.

I don't think it proved that popular when last played, but could easily be a TV game as part of an international bye weekend (or a curtain raiser for full internationals) should that become a regular part of the season.

Gardner would play for Lancashire, because its an adjacent county north of Lancashire, IIRC it was historically part of Lancashire.

so you'd have to have a ruling on cases like that and eventually London-raised players,

Maybe they'd play for whichever county they first played in. Londoner Dom Peters represented Lancashire a few years ago, AFAIK on that basis.

as well as people who are eligible and seek to represent Wales or Scotland.

Its an England trial, they would not play.

as much as i'd live to see it return the roses match would do to the celtic nations what SoO is doing to the island nations..

instead we should increase the number of games England & England 'A' play against the celtic nations, french, russia etc...
