Ikin quits

Ikin has decided to retire at the end of the season. He says he is not the player he used to be, and training and playing is become too much of a struggle for him. Andrew Gee is finally quitting too, as is back rower Phil Lee, once again to knee problems.

Well Ikin and Gee probably take up 1 million of the salary cap as both are favourites of Bennett. Their retirement has obviously enabled the Broncos to keep all their remaining players off contract.

lol nice try legend. When Ikin signed with Brisbane he wasn't even dating Bennetts daughter so he wasn't exactly carrying the favourites tag, I think the only involvement Bennett would've had with him was in the 98 origin series. He probably is sitting on quite a nice salary but Gee would be on peanuts since coming back to the NRL. If I remember correctly, there was an article from Gee last year where he said he'd play for free if Brisbane would let him go around again this year.

The retirement of Gee and Ikin must surely go down as one of the greatest days in the history of the Broncos. The scary thing is, however, what Bennett had to say about Ikin:

"He's won a good contract and we would have given him a good contract next year, and the year after," Bennett told ABC Radio today.

"He's just one of the guys who come along every so often who have got something real special," said Bennett.

I don't know if Bennett is stale, of if he's just lost the plot completely.

MM, I think its all part of Baldrick's cunning plan...

He only has to talk up the kid to keep the myth alive that he was in some way a great player; and that means more sponsorship income for the bosses son-in-law. Benny aint no dummy.

The Qld press had Ben Ikin's pic splashed across the front pages this week. They did the same thing when he became Mrs Bennett.

Salivor, it's irrelevant who Ikin was sleeping with when he signed with the Broncos. Recent events show that Bennett was willing to risk losing the Origin to ensure Ikin's future would be bright. And it seems to have worked a treat.
